Hi guys,
My router TP-link WR841N v8.4 has build r23204 of dec 2013. It works fine but the wifi signal strength is 1 bar shorter than that of the stock firmware for the same distance.
I am wondering whether the latest build 24461 is stable and has better wifi signal strength.

This new v9 device has a diffrent hardware. How could TP-Link made this router worse by downsizing the cpu?
Such a pitty! The v8.x has an Atheros AR9341 500Mhz.
u re so wrong, V9 have 550mhz, newer, faster and better chip than v8.
Its like 2 years diffrence between arm technology.
look here

search for
Qualcomm Atheros QCA9533
PS. I have v9 version, so this data is correct.
Your wiki link is wrong or its for CHINESE market only, their routers are always worse.
I accidentally bricked my wr841nd v8.2 and now its in a continuous bootloop.
I attached the USB to ttl adapter to the Tx, Rx, and Gnd pins on the board but the PUTTY console is reading gibberish.
When I try to write 'tpl' I can see the Rx light on the usb to ttl adapter blink.(along with every keypress) but the router is constantly rebooting and not responding to commands.
if you do receive bullshit, your serial adapter may not get 5V+. is it serial to usb ? oh jes it is. try first to set RX and GND, TX isnt needed for signal.
then power on router.
I found an issue with DD-WRT v24-sp2 (6/23/14), where wired devices on eth1 can't communicate with one another after a fresh flash and 30/30/30.
I've been searching for a solution for this, but I couldn't find anything so far. Any help would be much appreciated.
That was the same to me.
Telnet/ssh to router with putty.
user: root
pw: webinterface login password.
run this 2 commands:
swconfig dev eth1 set enable_vlan 1
swconfig dev eth1 set apply
check the result with pinging, if its ok then set them up as startup script.
Done!
@N3szt0r, the method described by you worked for me, I've got a lot to thank you, really thank you.
