Yeah, figured that out later :) Strange then, that there's a post on page 1 of this thread that says "ND supported, not N".
In any case, anyone try this with a "V1/V2" model?
Not supported. I found an old WR841N(D)v2 router and it cannot be flashed into OpenWRT or DD-WRT via the web interface.
For OpenWRT, it doesn't have enough flash space...for DD-WRT it says that I have uploaded a different version of firmware for my hardware. I assume even if it can pass the version check it will still not be able to flash since its flash space might be very small.

I have a WR841N v8. As pointed out on its WIKI, r22118 is quite good. You could also try Gargoyle 1.6.0 (stable) which runs quite well on this device. _________________ Linksys 54G v2

Hello,
Yes, start with a Factory-to-DD-wrt build.
My 841nd v8 is currently using the latest beta build (all builds are beta really), 30432.
The other build in the folder is for the next upgrade, webupgrade.bin. It can be uploaded via the DD-WRT firmware upgrade page. Read the build threads, with the various build numbers in the titles, the change log (http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=279466) and the svn timeline (http://svn.dd-wrt.com/timeline). _________________ Before asking a question on the forums, update dd-wrt: Where do I download firmware? Good afternoon. I have an TP-Link WR-841N V8.4, and with build 22118 but i want to uprage to new build. Wich one is the best for this router to use as a vpn server?
Hi Guys, I have a v7.2 841, I wonder what's the latest stable release for v7?
From what I gather, the "unstable" ones can cause quite a headache, reset button not work, not able to webflash afterwards... Would be great if someone can share their experiences.
This is my first time flashing dd-wrt, is the reset command "mtd -r erase nvram" still necessary?
Could factory-reset screwed up 841? I first flashed 21061 factory-to-ddwrt.bin, everything seemed to work. At least I could get IP from ISP DHCP, however, the web interface was sluggish.
So today I decided to upgrade to latest 30880 with webflash.bin, and somehow I felt it was necessary to reset to default which I chose. Upgraded successfully, but then when I tried to get IP from DHCP, the router hanged and had to hard reset the router. After that, no matter what I try, I still cannot not get WAN IP.
I thought may be it's 30880, so I flash back to 21061, no luck, go up to 30826, same... So I connect 841 to another router(B) with another connection, 841 got WAN ip fine from B router.
So, are the ISP dhcp servers dead? I have no idea how to check that!! Or the factory-reset caused unknown issue? Cause every fresh flash after that reset-to-default, when changed to automatic dhcp, 841 hangs and have to hard reset!!
Now I reverted back to tp-link fw, same problem with dhcp

First of all, factory reset means that all of the settings in DD-WRT go back to what they were when you first put dd-wrt on the router. Second, that means that the default internal ip of the router is 192.168.1.1. It should ask you for to put in username and change the password. (Change password screen) Third, it is easy to test if the ISP external DHCP servers are down, plug an ethernet cable from your PC to the modem and see if you are connected to the internet, if not call your ISP. They will help you, so long as you don't mention the dd-wrt router, just pretend that the only internet connection you need is the Modem to the PC via the ethernet cord, RJ-45 cord.
If the connection between the PC and modem works, then it is a router settings. Are you sure you are on a Auto Config DHCP connection for the modem, and not for example PPPoE or something else? _________________ Before asking a question on the forums, update dd-wrt: Where do I download firmware? I'm using optic broadband at home, and got a GPON ONT(HG863, 4 ports) from ISP. I have an NEC router and a STB connected to it, the usual setup. I could also acquire a 3rd ip, just like the 1st time I flashed 841 with 21061.
I did however tried with PC directly connected to the ONT, but couldn't get an ip. So, it's a sign that problem lies on the ISP side. But I want to be sure, is there anyway to check? Their CS is not very helpful at all. Some did suggest that I reboot the ONT, but I worry if I do that, the NEC router and the STB may face the same problem. So I'm looking ways to check ISP DHCP servers, are they down? If not, is there error message when trying to acquire an IP.
The thing is I never see a router hanged before when not able to acquire an ip from dhcp, dd-wrt is the first after webflash from 21061 to 30880 with "reset to default". When I flashed dd-wrt, WAN is disabled, and I have to go to SETUP and choose "Automatic DHCP", click apply, then the web page goes blank, waited for awhile (more than few minutes), no response. Open a new tab on browser, trying to load 192.168.1.1, can't connect. The lights on the router aren't blinking, so I reboot the router, the "Automatic DHCP" applied, but no ip, go to Status - WAN, RENEW, nothing, all 0.0.0.0!! So I hard reset the 841, web interface loads up, reset usr/pwd, vicious cycles all around again!

I would suggest you reboot the modem first. Nothing bad will happen. It is the same as if the power in your house went out and came back on. It is meant to get an IP by itself. As for the ISP customer service staff, I would suggest you to just be patient with them. They are mostly reading from a script and must go step by step through a procedure. The first thing they will often tell you to do is to power off the modem for 30 seconds and power it back on. _________________ Before asking a question on the forums, update dd-wrt: Where do I download firmware?
