Thanks for all the rendered help. One last question, for the dd wrt fw, can we enable the usb support such that we need not install the Trendnet software in order to access portable flash drive attached to the router?
i just purchased a TEW-673GRU this afternoon cause im pretty sure my old Buffalo WHR-54 (never bothered with dd-wrt for it) is on its way out...anyways i used to run dd-wrt on my old linksys wrt54g long long time ago...so i figured id see if there is a dd-wrt fw out for it and found this thread
so a few questions...first of all is the following instructions what I should be following to go from factory fresh to dd-wrt?

secondly is the file linked in the quote a factory-to-ddwrt file or is it the straight up fw bin? if the provided link isnt the factory to ddwrt file where may i be able to find that file to flash a brand new router to dd-wrt for the TEW-673?
so going on the assumption that the quoted linked file is a factory to ddwrt file, once that file is flashed following the instructions do i still need to grab a FW file from a link like this?
lastly...as for instructions after initial flash...could i just use this link? or should i just be using the router database for my FW updates?....will the FW links on the first linked page be fine for a TEW-637 already running dd-wrt?

Nope. Follow the steps exactly and u should have a Dd-wrt on your device.

My only issue is that I am unable to obtain a 'n' connection even when this device is on it's original fw. Only 'g' at best.
I picked up this router on the newegg deal as well. I just got it in the mail today and loaded the firmware on it as instructed which is 03/17/11.
How do we go about upgrading the firmware to a more recent version? Are we able to use the firmware from the DIR-825? That router has the same hardware and an up to date firmware.

Appreciate you putting this out there. I've got your version loaded and will start playing with it over the weekend. Has anyone had a chance or even the inclination to mess around with the configuration at all? I'm curious as to the transmit power. My E2000 had a default of around 70db but would heat up really bad. Tuned it down to 50 and it became more stable and heating issue improved noticeably.

I followed the instructions that have been posted here a few times, but using the 18024 build and editing the file myself.
1. Download the r18024 files factory-to-ddwrt_NA.bin and dir825-firmware.bin.
2. Hexedit (I use the free Hex Editor Neo) factory-to-ddwrt_NA.bin and change the last byte to 1 (30 -> 31).
3. Set PC's NIC to 192.168.10.2 and 100Mbps.
4. Hold the Reset button on the router for 30 seconds while powering up.
5. Upload the modified factory-to-ddwrt_NA.bin file at http://192.168.10.1/.
6. After a few minutes, reset the NIC to DHCP and connect to http://192.168.1.1/.
7. Use the standard GUI method to upgrade to the dir825-firmware.bin with the Reset option.
I used Firefox 9.0.1 for the firmware update without any problems. I set my NIC to 100Mbps, but Windows complained that I needed to restart for it to take effect, which I didn't do. Depending on your exact setup, you may or may not have luck with your NIC set to 1Gbps/Auto or with certain browsers.
I did have some weirdness with my wireless networks not showing up at first, but eventually they appeared. I tried changing settings back and forth and re-saving, but the sudden decision to start working didn't seem to coincide with anything I actually did. I need to play with it some more, but it seems to be working well so far after the initial issues.

While researching the best power settings to use, I read that the DIR-825 has some sort of hardware limitation, regardless of what you set it to. http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=613671 My TEW-673GRU seems to do that as well, though I haven't done any real testing of it.
Did you try doing a hard 30-30-30 reset after flashing the firmware? _________________ R8000 stock
