I have almost no knowledge about Linux. And I just checked out Realtek's site. They don't have wireless drivers Shocked

I thought every major manufacturer provides drivers for their hardware and that Unix is equally important as M$ nowadays.
So there are really no drivers out there! wow...

To be honest here, i had a realtek gigabit pci adapter that would not work under the latest ubuntu, i put it under openbsd just fine, so yes it is hard to port for this chipset.

Also an Asus WL-330gE is dd-wrt supported. Seems to be a small travel unit.

I will also like to know the answer to this question.

Thanks

Here is an update, I got a RB-1132, mostly out of curiosity. But it can do almost anything in regards to connecting networks (AP, Router, Repeater).

The Asus WL-330gE was no alternative since I need two ethernet ports to "tap" into existing lines without interrupting the network to the originally attached device.

Here is the opened device:

As one can see it is much more integrated than the GR-1102, but maybe just a newer revision. Linux runs on it and I can telnet to the device with root access. There's a 4-pin connector between the RJ45 and USB ports on the CB, possibly a serial.

So, if Linux already runs, couldn't "someone" just copy the drivers and use them with dd-wrt? I'd think there's no need for driver-development.

OAL, did you confirm this can do "Repeater function" out of Box?

Also the unit you got, does it have, (two) Ethenet port, (one) Wlan Port,& (one) USB Wlan port? If yes, can the USB work with a USB modem?

It can do universal wifi repeater out of the box.
It does have two ethernet ports, one is labelled WAN, the other LAN, but they work like in a hub if the WAN port is not specifically assigned.

I have no USB modem, but the manufacturer advertises with a big list of supported USB modems.

The http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_Devices#Alfa_Networks AIP-W502U he bought is listed as being a "supported device" on the wiki but I couldn't find instructions on it or a download link to the image anywhere.

If it IS supported, this is a decent n travel router - anyone have any idea where to get info on it? (I tried searching, obviously, and nothing comes up)

Well finally someone got DD-WRT on the RB-1132 running.

http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=508523#508523

Hopefully will see how to install DD-WRT.

Great Work, Conjur
