Here is an update, I got a RB-1132, mostly out of curiosity. But it can do almost anything in regards to connecting networks (AP, Router, Repeater).
The Asus WL-330gE was no alternative since I need two ethernet ports to "tap" into existing lines without interrupting the network to the originally attached device.
Here is the opened device:
As one can see it is much more integrated than the GR-1102, but maybe just a newer revision. Linux runs on it and I can telnet to the device with root access. There's a 4-pin connector between the RJ45 and USB ports on the CB, possibly a serial.
So, if Linux already runs, couldn't "someone" just copy the drivers and use them with dd-wrt? I'd think there's no need for driver-development.

It can do universal wifi repeater out of the box.
It does have two ethernet ports, one is labelled WAN, the other LAN, but they work like in a hub if the WAN port is not specifically assigned.
I have no USB modem, but the manufacturer advertises with a big list of supported USB modems.
If it IS supported, this is a decent n travel router - anyone have any idea where to get info on it? (I tried searching, obviously, and nothing comes up)
