I have switched from ddwrt to tomato but am having no success getting it to extend my wireless network. I had some success using ddwt so want to revert back. The problem is when I try and flash the ddwrt firmware I get an error file has invalid header. I have read that I need to modify then binary header but am unsure how to do that or what software to use.
Has someone either got:-
Stock firmware (v1 that I can download that will enable me to flash back without having the file invalid header error (the one on the Linksys site has v2 firmware and I assume I don't want to go to that version as it will no longer be flash able?)
The know how to modify the header on the ddwrt firmware so I can update then reflash.
Or a version of ddwrt firmware that has the valid header so I can download.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
I figured out how to do it. here is the modified firmware to reflash an m10 v1 from tomato back to the latest stock firmware, i flashed with this and was then able to flash back to dd-wrt,just put the attached file into the upgrade section of tomato UI, there is no need to change file extension or anything,
hope it helps.
what firmware version is best for using with wds, i have a two router setup in my home using wds and my m10 router keeps losing connection every couple hours.
I used the dd-wrt.v24-18024_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_m10.bin on my valet M10 and it upgraded beautifully. Getting it to work as a wireless extender for my main router was a headache. It was pretty simple though. follow the steps in the http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Client_Bridged. The main point is making sure that your wireless security settings are the same. Do that, and using it as a client bridge works well.
Has anyone gotten wireless N to work? All I have is wl0 [2.4 GHz] running DD-WRT v24-sp2 (04/07/12) mini - build 18946M NEWD-2 K2.6 Eko.
Was gonna use WDS to link 2 of them together but its a waste to only be able to link over G.
you can try and set the wireless mode from mixed to g and n, or just n. but either way if your using a device that is only g rated the router will always revert back to g, to get the full n rating you will have to use a device that is also rated n. other things to check is make sure your wireless security is WAP2-AES, cuz n wont work with other securty protocols in dd-wrt from what ive read. check this out for more info
I've installed the dd-wrt.v24-19342_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_m10.bin (Brainslayer) as per the instructions in the forum. It's installed successfully.
I have a couple of questions/concerns after the install.
1. The wi-fi protected setup LED button on the router is yellow/orange after the install. Anyone exprience this as well? Not a biggie but just curious.
2. The TX rate on the wireless status page is showing as 71mW (default). It has increased the signal on my wifi devices slightly over the stock Cisco firmware. I'm just wondering what other users set this value to, as it's configurable from 1-251mW. Is it advisable to set it to a higher than the default value, say 100mW? The help link on the advanced wireless settings does have a comment "Higher power settings are not recommended for users due to excess heat generated by the radio chipset, which can affect the life of the router.", so just wanted to get some feedback from other users.
3. On the Wireless Basic Settings page, there is a section for "Virtual Interfaces". I used that to create a "guest" SSID. The help link for that page did not have documentation, so I'm guessing that the purpose of this feature is to create multiple SSID's, right?

I upgraded from the Cisco Firmware to dd-wrt.v24-15257_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_m10.bin. My bandwidth jumped up from 2mb to 12mb immediately. Then I saw dd-wrt.v24-18024_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_m10.bin. I thought, "Hmm, newer must be better." I was wrong, my throughput dropped bck down to 2mb down. So I reverted back to dd-wrt.v24-15257_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_m10.bin and all was right with the world. I am back to 12mb down.
Just my experience with Comcast Xfinity in the South East US.
I flashed dd-wrt.v24-19342_NEWD-2_K2.6_openvpn_small.bin and it worked well except the openvpn part of it that I couldn't get working. Then I became braindead and flashed a version of dd-wrt that was too old and bricked my M10. Well, almost, but I don't know what to do next... The router doesn't ping and the web interface doesn't answer either. I read the peacock thread and managed to upload the original firmware and also dd-wrt.v24-19342_NEWD-2_K2.6_openvpn_small.bin by tftp, but once the transfer is complete nothing happens. It's like the firmware doesn't take. I don't get errors during the tftp, I see the whole file going through in about 30 seconds, but then the router goes back to its unresponsive state. What can I do to revive the router? Did anybody manage to bring one of these back from the dead?
I've been using build 17990 on p.4 of this thread for a long while now and it's been running rock stable. I am pondering about an update to my current build. I am wondering about the following questions:
1. what is the latest stable build for the m10? Is it up to 20xxx now?
2. what are the significant updated features since 17990? E.g. is IPv6 now a standard feature?
3. what are the major benefits of a Small build compare to a Mini?
Been running steady for a few hours how. Unless I update here please assume its rock steady.
Configuration I have them running in is:
M10 1st unit = Main router
M10 2nd unit = AP-Bridge
Running 2 wired and wireless Vlans. 1 for data and 1 for voice use with SIP phones.
Current Test:
Pushing 100 pings every hour with 500MB data end to end. Test 250 DNS look-ups with Net resolution to Google and MSN per hour. Spring-bording off onion with DYNDNS functionality. Auto SIP - SIP PAC providing 4 calls 10min each every hour. _________________ DD-WRT BIG on the following Linksys:

Q1. It was mentioned in p.4 of this thread. Below are the codes to do it. You need to run them 1 time by Telnet into the router. I did that a while back, it worked. You can perhaps set it to other colors, but blue will match the rest of the LEDs.
Code:
nvram set connblue=1
nvram commit
reboot
Q2. Not quite sure the answer to that, perhaps someones else here can help. I just leave it at default.
Q3. Yes for multiple SSIDs. But to do it right you need to follow the multiple WLAN instructions in the DD-WRT wiki page.

Excellent, thank you! Will give these fresh builds from Mr. BrianSlayer a go soon. I might try a different small build though, since I don't need voip.
I'm here, and it seems to be working fine.
The only problem is that I can't change any configuration . After I click the Save or Apply buttons, Firefox tells me that the session has been reset. I just did a 30-30-30 reset of the router with the original firmware, then upgraded to this bin you posted, and then changed the password.
Any ideas?
If you need a hand with the testing, let me know how can I help. I'll have the router for at least one more week.
