I'm looking for a router that can do the following, but I'm a bit confused (looking at the ones in the database, then the reviews of it on Amazon and Newegg). I was hoping someone could help me identify a few choices.
I recently got a TV with ethernet and WiFI capability (well the WiFi requires a seperate stick purchase) and I have a XBOX 360. Currently the 360 gets Internet via a networked bridge to my desktop but I want to buy a repeater bridge so I can connect the 360 and the TV to the repeater bridge. The repeater bridge would then wirelessly connect to a Verizon DSL router (I think Marvel) downstairs. I'm thinking that since I'm moving out in a year I should also future proof it slightly in terms of functionality. So.. ideally it should have these features.
- USB/NAS (can I plug in my 2 TB external HDD?). Is there such a thing as a DLNA router?
- Wireless B, G, N.
- Gigabit ethernet ports (future use when I get gigabit ethernet ports on my computer equipment)
- Price: Under $150 ideally. But if it's under $200 I'll compare the features of what you guys recommend to see if I can justify the extra $50.

Could think of 3 different ones for this...
1) Linksys WRT610N v2 or E3000
2) Asus RT-N16
3) Netgear WNR3500L
Any of those work great with dd-wrt and should fit your needs, the linksys is most expensive, is about $150 new, you can however get the refurb's for cheaper, about $100~120
I have a few questions about those routers if you know anything more about them.
The Linksys E3000 seems to overheat, the general solution seems to be to add some feet to rise it off the ground. Are there still major heating issues after that?
Both the Asus RT-N16 and Netgear WNR3500L seem to have wireless reception issues (either range or drop-outs). Is that more a function of the default firmware or a defective unit?

In general all N routers heat up, so adding a heatsink with proper ventilation will help that of course.
Far as the wireless issues are concerned, you read any of those units support post? Every unit has potential to fubar up if the user is clueless, Most of those problems come from people not knowing what their doing, if you use a simple setup, you probably wont ever have those problems. _________________ Wireless N Config | Linking Routers | DD-WRT Wiki | DD-WRT Builds | Peacock - Broadcom FAQ
