3.x Big is around 17 mb so too big for routers with 8mb or less. some routers have 32mb to 64 mb of flash rom so they can use it though.

not RAM, ROM space for containing the OS. easiest way to brick your router is to try an write a ROM to it and not have enough space. seems to happen often.

but we want you to read and search this board for atleast 4 hours before asking questions. There is a wealth of info here based on what other users did, failed and succeeded in. Very Happy

I haven't been around for quite some time to this forum since my last update of my Lnksys E2000 firmware. I feel I need to make another update for my router and wanted to confirm if I can use the k26 builds.

Router: Linksys E2000
firmware: dd-wrt.v24-14567_NEWD-2_K2.6_std_usb_ftp-e2000

I started in the router database link for my router type and it list these firmware available.

Code:

K26 NV60 big   dd-wrt.v24-21061_NEWD-2_K2.6_big-nv60k.bin   2013-04-22   7,48 MB
K26 NV60 mega   dd-wrt.v24-21061_NEWD-2_K2.6_mega-nv60k.bin   2013-04-22   7,51 MB
K26 NV60 mini   dd-wrt.v24-21061_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-nv60k.bin   2013-04-22   3,38 MB
K26 NV60 openvpn   dd-wrt.v24-21061_NEWD-2_K2.6_openvpn-nv60k.bin   2013-04-22   4,34 MB
K26 NV60 usb_nas   dd-wrt.v24-21061_NEWD-2_K2.6_std_usb_nas-nv60k.bin   2013-04-22   5,84 MB

I have also checked by telnetting into my router and verify my core size to be '17', which suggest I'm good to use the k26 build. Since my flash size is 8mb, the big & mega builds have a file size of 7.51mb. I'm still good to use any of the two?

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I believe it would be useful to post on this topic because I still see it as relevant to my issue & useful for others.

I have revived my old wl-500w by replacing a (faulty but working) minipci card with a newer (different) one.
The details I have on the new card are (Model: TX4322PN BCM943224 Dual band 2.4 & 5.8GHZ).

Now back on topic, I am using K26 build 14929 which is running rock stable on the unit but is lacking some of the OpenVPN features of the more recent builds.

Telneting
Code:
nvram show|grep corerev
gives me back a value of 16, which I find very strange & interesting.

Would I be safe to flash a post #15000 or even post #16500 K26 build without risking a brick?

Also the new card is supposed to be dual-band, but currently only the 2.4GHZ is transmitting. Would there be a way to activate the 5GHZ band?
