I have the Asus RT-66U router.

According to Wiki this seems to be the first file to flash. I have the stock firmware.

dd-wrt.v24-21676_NEWD-2_K3.x-big-RT-N66U.trx

What Bin file, if necessary, do I need to flash after?

Thanks in advance.

I bought my RT-N66U last November and after updating to the latest ASUS firmware, I did the 30-30-30 reset, flashed dd-wrt.v24-23320_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega_RT-N66U.trx and that was it. I have since upgraded to dd-wrt.v24-23720_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega_RT-N66U.trx without any nvram clearing or resets and everything works except for the WiFi that I have seen others post about not functioning after awhile.
All I do is turn off and back on the radio and it's back to working.
I am considering an upgrade to a newer build as I have seen some reports that the WiFi stability has improved but I am in no rush.

Is there a firmware that allows for full 1750mbit speeds? I am getting a max of about 20mbit on all 4 firmwares I have tried for this router. I am getting close to 1750 with the newest asus firmware.

I have the exact same problem

@prunku INVALID, N66U is not an AC router.

Hi All,

I received my RT-N66U yesterday, and set about flashing DD-WRT on it last night. First, I setup the stock ROM to make sure everything looked right there - no problems.

But, on all DD-WRT builds I tried, the WAN port didn't seem to get detected. In the various places around DD-WRT that show the MAC addresses of the interfaces, WAN was just blank. Reverted to stock, and flashed to the latest Merlin - both work fine.

The builds I tried were..
Code:
dd-wrt.v24-23598_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega_RT-N66U.trx
dd-wrt.v24-24160_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega_RT-N66U.trx
dd-wrt.v24-24160_NEWD-2_K3.x-big-RT-N66U.trx
dd-wrt.v24-K3_AC_OLDD.bin (Builds 23885, 23900, 24200)

Stock: RT-N66U_3.0.0.4_374_5517-g302e4dc.trx
Merlin: RT-N66U_3.0.0.4_374.43_0.trx

Thoughts?

I'm loving the Recovery mode. It feels a lot more like you can crash about with builds and upgrades in the UI, knowing you have a decent, convenient safety net.. certainly, more than the Linksys E2000/4200 I'm coming from.

Also, a couple of questions..

Why are some builds for the N66U around the 8 Meg mark, while some are 25 Meg? The 24160 above, "mega" is 7.6M; "big" is 21,2M.

Any overheating issues with this unit? While pretty much idle last night, the top (in the stand, i.e. back when flat) was really quite toasty.

Thanks,
JJ

UPDATE on my previous post

I have updated the CFE to 1.0.1.3, and the WAN port is now detected; I see the MAC address in Sys-Info.

Perhaps I'm reading the WiKi incorrectly. It seems that it says, the requirement to update the CFE went away some time ago, so I assumed that it was an optional step.

So, I followed the steps to update the CFE, linked from this guide, and that seems to have cured it.

I reflashed most of the builds listed above, and they all now detect the WAN port correctly.

I've settled on DD-WRT v24-sp2 (05/27/14) big - build 24160.

Just installed latest BrainSlayer build (btw, thanx alot for awesome fresh builds! Glad to return back to ddwrt from tomatousb). But I cannot get 450 out of 5ghz wireless, only 216.5. Has anyone achieved it? If yes - please share your configuration. I've got 450 on 2.4ghz using n-only, but have to use GN on 2.4ghz, so would really like to have 450 on 5ghz.

My configuration is following:
N-only
Channel: auto
Width: 40 Mhz
Extension: upper

Set a fixed channel, auto will override your 40Mhz width setting

Hello,

i'm running build 21530 on mu N66u for more than a year. Because of some changes with my ISP I need to place a sip-ata behind the router. In order to work properly I need the modules:

nf_nat_sip
nf_conntrack_sip

that are not in the current build I have. I've searched through the forum but I'm a bit confused which build containes these modules. Can anyone tell me which build is best to use that contain these two modules?

Thanks!

Hi,

the latest BrainSlayer's versions (all three 24xxx, K3) are not working for me: after update the router goes into reboot loop, even after clearing NVRAM,resetting etc.

Using recovery mode, I can go back to latest kong's release (24200M) that works perfectly.

Did something important change into BrainSlayer's version in the last 2-3 months? I've tried all thre 24xxx releases and they produce the same problem, while Kong's versions work perfectly.

Never happened before...I've switched often from Kong's to BrainSlayer's without problems.

Thanks.

I used to have stability issues with k2 dd-wrt with CFE patched with the first 64kB fix (the one made from linux box) on this router. Now I have updated to K3 kernel with the lattest CFE patch, mainly because the first one had a bug which didn't let you restore the firmware at boottime if broken. Now I have no stability issues and radio is working like a charm.

¡Good job!
