I've installed latest firmware and have very low wi-fi connection - 72mbps. No one device could connect to router at 150 or 300 Mbit. What should I do to improve WiFi speed connection?

It is likely to be your WiFi settings, specifically the Wireless -> Wireless Security settings. In that screen, try setting your Security Mode to WPA2 Personal; WPA Algorithms to AES.
I've found (and it is mentioned all over the place) that this combination is required to push up to those higher speeds.
In order to reach 300mbps you must set "N-only" and WPA2.
but if you have other devices that not support N but only B/G you can't and you have to config MIXED.

channel width is AUTO or 40mhz?

9. Now let go of the WPS button and restart the router again.
10. Give it around 5 minutes to completely boot up and then you can reach the tomato web interface.
There is no need for the Asus Restoration Tool with the web interface from the CFE.
Wifi light in router advertises your router back to life.

There is no denying that DD-WRT is much slower than stock firmware. K3.x builds are even slower than K26 builds. If you still want to use DD-WRT set congestion control to highspeed, otherwise use AsusWRT Merlin, it is fast and good enough for most users (and supports Optware or Entware).
So if I'm getting 65Mbps down doing a broadband speedtest on Ethernet and a max of 55Mbps (usually 40-50Mbps) over Wi-Fi on an rt-n66u (DD-WRT v24-sp2 (05/27/13) mega - build 21676) after tinkering with Wi-Fi settings, would switching to AsusWRT Merlin get my Wi-Fi speeds on par with Ethernet?

But, are you sure the bottleneck isn't that your Wifi devices aren't connecting at the higher speeds, and for whatever reason they're only connecting at "G speeds", i.e. 54meg?
On the DD-WRT Status -> Wireless page, you will be able to see your devices and their Wifi speeds.

Wireless status page shows my laptop is connected consistently at 150M for both RX and TX, with RX jumping up to 270M or 300M. Going right next to the router doesn't really make a difference in the broadband speedtest.
I got my router the other day and flashed build 25697 to it and I have run into a strange issue with the wireless. Whenever I set the 2.4GHz network to WPA2 with AES encryption, nothing can connect to it. It works fine on the 5GHz network and will work fine if I change it to TKIP. However, I need AES encryption working on 2.4GHz because I have some devices that are 2.4GHz only and can only use AES encryption when using WPA2.It works fine if I flash back to stock and use the same wireless settings though so it is an issue with DD-WRT only.
Does anyone have any ideas? I have tried everything I can think of from changing the channel, channel width, network mode, etc. Nothing seems to work. Sometimes after a reboot, I can get connected for a few minutes but then it just stops. It is very frustrating. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: I have tried various other builds and all have the same issue even using stock settings (leave all wireless settings the same after factory reset but add wpa2+aes). One thing I did notice though, is I can connect fine to the 2.4GHz network upon bootup but the 5GHz network takes longer to get working. As soon as the 5GHz network starts broadcasting, the 2.4GHz network stops working and the TX errors start growing rapidly. Weird...
EDIT2: Naming both networks with the same SSID seems to have fixed it which isn't desired. I'd like to have networkname and networkname-5ghz so I can actively choose which network I want. Oh well, it works fine for now.
why the big (21,24mb) version is around 3 times larger in size then the mega version that is only 7,61mb?
Big has more features... probably safe to use that K26 table we spoke about from the WIKI as a guide. (but you are right from there, NTFS looks like the only add...)
generally speaking the K3 OEM devices had loads more flash & RAM so there were other adds.
i mentioned big MIGHT have TOR, TRANSMISSION, and PROVOXY over on your other thread. Also gave you hints on the "tools" to research all the other differences in the SVN.
Perhaps you could try them both & see for yourself

for someone with your device posting a good flash/test result. That is, assuming you don't have serial/jtag capabilities, it is a safe thing to do.
