Hello, just recently purchased a N66U to replace my Dlink and I'm ready to flash DD-WRT on it, but honestly I'm a bit lost here. From what I can tell users are having trouble with the k3.x builds but it seems that the k2.x builds are stable.

Also from reading Jnavas post about recommended builds he mentions 64K CFE?

If any one can push me in the right direction it be greatly appreciated.
Thanks SM

Edit: my CFE is 1.0.1.9

Thank you, this is makes things alot easier to understand haha.

From what I can tell my NVRAM is 65536 bytes which is around 65k so I should be safe for the mini build. From there ill work my way up to 3 and see what happens.

Edit: Got 26138 k3 working

Hello there.
I have a Problem since build from may last year.
The wl0.1 Clients cant connect. Ist not a security failure because with disabled wireless-security it dosnt work either.

After installing the recommend K3 build 26138M its still the same.

I tried to find a "search in This thread button" but didnt find one.

Is there an solution for this Problem?

best,
BigWhoop

Edit:
i found this Workaround:
http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=955571#955571

Code:

ifconfig wl0.1 down
wl -i wl0.1 down
wl -i wl0.1 bssid `nvram get wl0.1_hwaddr`
wl -i wl0.1 up
ifconfig wl0.1 up

any ideas to make a fix with this? or to make an automatism? it works until i reboot or change anything.

Did you read the Asus RT-N66U - DD-WRT Wiki?!
If you have 64K CFE, try:

is it fixed in Kongs Build 25015?
the K3 works with all Versions.
The old K3 build has this failure and the new one, too. I think 25015 had this Problem also.

All other funktions works fine.

Did both of those builds fail to solve your problem?
Or are you unwilling to try them without guarantees?

i have a Workaround for this failure.
And the Setup of this router Needs a lot of time because of vlans, four wlan AP and extra DHCP and DNS Options.

I dont want to do the hole process again only for only one not 100% working Connection out of four.

My bl_version is 1.0.1.3

It has nothing to do with "unwilling". But there is only a litte guarantee of success for this. Old Build and newer build with the same Problem Smile

Thanks for your help yet.

Maybe it is possible to do:

ifconfig wl0.1 down
wl -i wl0.1 down
wl -i wl0.1 bssid `nvram get wl0.1_hwaddr`
wl -i wl0.1 up
ifconfig wl0.1 up

in a Startup script. Then an reboot fix it after changing Settings in the gui.

I respectfully disagree. Regardless, if you're not willing to follow advice, then please don't waste our time asking for it.

I just got demi316's rt-n66 in the mail. I opened it up as something was rattling in it. Lo and behold it's one of the early models with the cooling fan it it.
Has anyone flashed the k3.X builds to one of these?
The fan is plugged into the serial port vcc and ground.

Just picked up an RT-N66R from a local goodwill (for $40). Looks brand new, but I opened it up, and the board is marked RT-N66U Rev 3.21, and oddly, the MicroSD card slot is missing! Anyone else seen this on current units? I'm half tempted to buy a slot and solder it in place...

Is there still any reason to flash the newest beta builds to this router or for security reasons? Or have the development stopped for this particular model?
