I buy the N66U with the HW Version B1.
I tried to flash the dd-wrt Firmware from the database " dd-wrt.v24-24461_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_RT-N66U.trx"
I only can see the "Settings have been updated. Web page will now refresh. Changes have been made to the IP address or port number. you will now be disconnected from RT-N66u. To access the settings of RT-N66U, reconnect to the wireless network and use the updated IP address and port number."
ping works during the message
Only the power LED flash every 4 seconds for 4 seconds.
With the latest versions of DD-WRT, is there any degradation of WiFi or LAN performance (particularly 5Ghz band) when compared to Asus' firmware? If so, does Merlin firmware have the same performance as Asus'?
S'OK, doing the rescue mode thing seems to have done the trick, though it was a fight to get into rescue mode. For the record, my successful procedure was:
1. With the router not connected to anything other than power, hold the reset button and switch the router on.
2. Wait for the power LED to flash (really slowly) and then release the reset button.
3. Connect a LAN Ethernet port to a PC where the PC's Ethernet port's TCP/IPV4 network properties have been assigned a manual IP address of 192.168.1.12 and a gateway of 192.168.1.1.
4. Start Chrome.
5. Go to chrome://appcache-internals/ and remove any entries for 192.168.1.1 or asus.
6. Browse to 192.168.1.1. You may have to wait some time for Windows to sort out what kind of network connection this is.
7. Eventually you should get an Asus mini-CFE web page which allows you to reset NVRAM and upload a new image.
8. Reset NVRAM.
9. Upload a "big" DD-WRT image, e.g. dd-wrt.v24-30949_NEWD-2_K3.x-big-RT-N66U.trx
10. Wait for it to upload and then for the wireless networking lights on the router to come on. This may take many minutes.
11. Press "continue" on the browser screen and you should see a DD-WRT screen.
I am having troubles with my router and this procedure. I get as far as uploading the DD-wrt image cited above. As it uploads eventually the web page goes dead and safari says it can't open the page. I then wait for an hour. I switch back to DHCP for my plugged in connection and it says it is a self assigned IP. The wireless lights never come on. What should I do at this point? Do I have to try resetting using the WDS for 10 seconds when I turn it on, do a 30-30-30 with the WDS or something else? I've tried version 26138-big, 26138-mega, 29134-big, 29134-mega as well without success, although my exact procedure may have varied slightly after i uploaded the image.
Of course, if you've flashed newer asus firmware you are locked out due to the FCC. You'll have to use the firmware restoration utility to flash an older version of asus firmware then dd-wrt. _________________ I am far from a guru, I'm barely a novice.

Or use ASUS Recovery utility to flash dd-wrt after downgrade asus firmware?
Or downgrade asuswrt to old version via ASUS Recofery utility and flash via stock ASUS Firmware GUI dd-wrt firmware?

The problem is probably not the cfe but your setup.
You don't need to use the recovery utility to flash dd-wrt. You can just flash it from the asus firmware. _________________ I am far from a guru, I'm barely a novice.

Yes, just flash from the GUI but if you install the latest asus firmware on the rt-n66u then you have to use the utility because of checks put into the firmware to prevent third party firmware flashing.
As to the rt-ac88u, you may not be able to put dd-wet on it at all.
A lot of people on the forum are finding it won't accept any third part firmware. _________________ I am far from a guru, I'm barely a novice.

Today upgrade RT-N66U from RT-N66U_3.0.0.4_376_2524-g0013f52 asuswrt gui and have the same problems, wps button 30/30/30 not work, wan not up, wifi not tested today, reset button work.
Update CFE via instruction and then again try to flash dd-wrt last beta?
Have idea, what's wrong? _________________ NETGEAR WNR2200 OpenWrt 18.06.0
