I thought at first it could be an easy task. Correct me if I am wrong, I guess WR1043ND and WR841ND are very similar and it would be just a matter of "copy/paste" modules as they would be cross-compatible. Or I am terribly wrong as these routers are only lookalike?
One thing I find quite difficult is finding the application binaries for routers like WR841ND, I mean, on Broadcom routers you can find them everywhere to download and/or extract them from a mega build using the firmware modkit just as easy.
And also, you say that dd-wrt wouldn't waste time trying to support a mod that 1/10 of the people would be capable to do, so what about the SD/MMC card mod on WRT54G? I guess it has a close level of difficulty. So, I don't think it is ridiculous.

Hi all!
First is want to say thanks Simon for providing us this cool mod!
But i have a little issue with it, altough i followed the process to the letter.
You can see on the attached pictures my device, which is a WR841N v7.2
I think i have soldered good the data+/-, and haven't cut or short anything around the resistors (made under magnifying glass).
Measured the voltage of the regulator made with L7805, 470uF condensator and a 100uF condensator, and it seems a fix 5.02V.
But when i connect any USB device to it (tried already with a 16Gb Kingston pendrive, 60GB External 2,5" HDD, 500Gb External 3,5" HDD (with external power supply, external USB 4port HUB) i get this dmesg output,
no matter which firmware using:
Code:
usb 1-1: new high speed USB device using ar71xx-ehci and address 2
usb 1-1: device descriptor read/64, error -71
usb 1-1: device descriptor read/64, error -71
usb 1-1: new high speed USB device using ar71xx-ehci and address 3
usb 1-1: device descriptor read/64, error -71
usb 1-1: device descriptor read/64, error -71
usb 1-1: new high speed USB device using ar71xx-ehci and address 4
usb 1-1: device not accepting address 4, error -71
usb 1-1: new high speed USB device using ar71xx-ehci and address 5
usb 1-1: device not accepting address 5, error -71
hub 1-0:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 1
If you take a look at the full dmesg output you could that - i think - the usb port is properly recognised, but somehow because this error i cannot mount or use anything
Already tried with the firmware what posted by Simon,
and ANOTHER from the openwrt forum, which is
compiled for directly to the v7 series of wr841n.
Has anybody meet with this problem before?
There must be some solution out there, because without the usb i cannot use the features of the openwrt with a few Kbytes of free space :'([/url]
SOLVED

Simon's rapidshare link no longer works.
Could someone please post the latest firmware binary?
Thanks!
The latest bin from Simon was on megaupload, not rapidshare.
Anyway i've uploaded here: http://www.multiupload.com/5K4UHKIHF9
But please verify the checksum before you flash it:
You can´t flash it via Factory Webinterface because the header of the image isn´t correct.
Flash it directly via TFTP.
Or use the following steps:
First flash this
factory image via Factory webinterface.
Then just upgrade with the sysupgrade command to my build.
can you explain in detail how to flash an image via non TFTP ?
i make USB mod, but i don't have see in log any log when i connect my usb stick ...
can you help ?
Dont forget to flash this over TFTP, because the signatures arent identical.
I found out an easier way: first flash WR841N-squashfs-factory via stock webGUI then flash MR3420-squashfs-sysupgrade using mtd command via ssh or telnet.
I have problem witch 602 resistor because i lost it...
Now i have new one but i recognized only gnd side and i dont know were i can solve second side....
Can somebody check for me were can i solve that 602 resistor please ??? I dont know what to do

Hi,
I know this topic is about USB mod for 841nd, but didn't found topic about the serial access to this board.
As seen the picture on the first post I removed R613 and bridged C496. I used CA-42 cable... but I can't access the router via serial. The cable is working, because I used it yesterday for a ASUS WL-520GC.
I tried to switch TX and RX, but nothing...
