I have set up samba in 15962-mega with user1, user2 and public share and it's working to 90% but it'a always a "BUT".
From my vista computer i don't need to give user/password to browse public folder.
When I tested from my windows 7 ultimate I have to set user/password to reach public folder.
I have read somewhere that is a win7 problem. Have someone any solution to this problem in win7?

"Send NTLMv2 response only\refuse LM & NTLM" <IS NOT DEFINED>

Code:
[global]
server string = rt-n16
workgroup = workgroup
interfaces = br*
bind interfaces only = yes
map to guest = Bad User
smb passwd file = /var/samba/smbpasswd
private dir = /var/samba
passdb backend = smbpasswd
log file = /var/smbd.log
max log size = 1000
printing = none
load printers = no
usershare allow guests = yes
socket options = TCP_NODELAY IPTOS_LOWDELAY

[public]
comment = shared mapp
path = /mnt/public
read only = no
guest ok = yes
guest only = yes
writeable = yes
force user = root

[User1]
comment = protected mapp
path = /mnt/mine map
read only = no
guest ok = no
valid users = user1
force user = root

[User2]
comment = protected mapp
path = /mnt/yours map
read only = no
guest ok = no
valid users = user2
force user = root

Which version of Samba is't in build 15962-mega ?
I have only two lines in "smbpasswd" user1/2 is it possible to set some pw to public ?

If I just put ex: user: "a" password: "a" then I can reach public,
>>> How to set a blank password to public ??? <<<

I have set this in windows 7:
Code:
HKLM\System\CCS\Services\LanmanWorkstation\Parameters
            DWORD  DomainCompatibilityMode = 1
            DWORD  DNSNameResolutionRequired = 0

Have set "Network security: LAN Manager authentication level" to "1"

I still get login "windows security" and "assign networkpassword"
When I try to reach "public map" must I give password to user1 or user2 to reach public map.

Code:
root@RT-N16:~# smbd -V
Version 2.2.12

Works fine for me in win7 but I don't use any "custom configuration", just have filled basic settings in.

@masterman @Frater

Have you tested in OTRW Samba with passwordprotected map(s) in Samba 3.5 ?

If it's working I consider to install OTRW in this weekend Laughing

FWIW, i have otrw 3.5.6 installed. Very vanilla setup. No complex password maps ..

I was using Win Vista clients to access the shares. I have since upgraded to Win 7. I did NOT have to do anything to the registry to restore access to the shares. I am using Win7Ultimate/HomePremuim, that may have played a role in not needing the registry changes.

Took a little while, back on forth on the forum Shocked to get the 3.5.6 version working. In hindsight, it should have been relatively painless. Now that I have it, I have since updated my cheatsheets and have have actually helped others on this forum get their setup working.

Let me know if you need help.

Okey
I consider to use OTRW because I don't get it to work with my setup in build 15962-mega on top post.
I have to give "some" password on first shot and after that all working.
Maby you have any solution om that?

i am on 15962-mega too but for e3000's.

I used the root/<router password>. I think, I had to enter it once, but that was it. Have had several client reboots since and connectivity is seamless.

go ahead .. walk on the wild side .. Wink

Take a read on this thread..

http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=87232

There are others on the same build, win7 OS that dont need passwords to access shares. Although in this case the person wants to have the security .. understandably..
