I have an E3000 and I am trying to modify the firmware in order to change the default SSL certificates. I would like to be able to use the https protocol for the web-GUI and not get the annoying certificate warning message everytime. The firmware modification kit spits out a generic.bin; however, the Peacock thread says NEVER to use a generic on the E3000 due to odd way it allocates NVRAM. Had anyone successfully modified the E3000 firmware? If not, is there another solution to the SSL certificate issue?

Well thats pretty opinionated, the forum stable recommended build is 14929, it performed great for me but i have been using eko 15508 for some months now with very positive results.
Thanks this build seems to have fixed the Phantom problems I had been having and I would suggest to all who are struggling make sure to read the peacock thread seriously and follow it.

I use 16214 Brainslayer Big and found it to be top shelf on this router. Stable, fast, etc.
There is a newer K2.6 Broadcom wireless driver 5.10.147.0 and our builds for the E3000 will greatly improve when Brainslayer or Eko get it and incorporate it.
It was discussed in the Timeline, but who knows when it will happen.

I assume you're referring to this one "dd-wrt.v24-16214_NEWD-2_K2.6_big-e2k-e3k.bin" ?

I've been running BS 15962 on my two E3000s for a year now. I've come to find out that there is an issue with the SPI firewall in this build.
I came looking for an alternative to upgrade to and I hope 16214 might work better for me.
You have had no issues with this build?
NOTE: My SPI firewall issue was causing communication failures on some applications. The most noticeable was the Diablo 3 Beta where I would be disconnected from the game servers every 5 minutes or so. Turned off SPI and was no longer getting disconnected.

So I went with the recommended build (14929) and the problem still exists. Disconnected from applications when SPI is enabled.
Update:
Even tried 18000. Same problem. No idea...
I'm using EKO dd-wrt.v24-17990_NEWD-2_K2.6_big-nv60k.bin and I noticed that the wps button works but it not turn off when I turn off the radio, anyone use this firmware? Have you noticed problems with this firmware for linksys E3000?
18000 is NOT stable on the e3000. Do not use it.
It may seem like its working at first. But go to sleep, and try to get online the next day and you will find you have to power cycle the router to get a connection.
18000 did have a greatly improved wireless performance over 14929 and 15962. (would pick 15962 over 14929)
Well, I've gone back to 15962 on my E3000s (3 of them) and so far (only 5 hours), it's looking better than 17990, 18000 and 18024. With those versions, a single router was very stable but my Repeater connections back to the core router wouldn't stay up for more than an hour or so.
There are plenty of comments that 15962 is the most stable version for the E3000s.
15962 is the best for this router .. been running for 30 days and counting since the last power recycle. Prior to that it has been running for at least 6 months with no problems. Check my sig for configs ..
Running mega and this router server as the the gateway for all internal devices to connect to the internet. _________________ ===================================

Did you make any special adustments in the advanced settings for the wireless cards on the e3000?
What kind of SNR are you getting on your backbone? How far apart are they?
the SNR for the backbone is in the 30-35 range. The routers are in different rooms. Separation is 40-45 feet, with walls and furniture in between. Single story house though. One router is at floor level, while the other is ~18 inches off the floor.
Hope this helps. _________________ ===================================
