I want to upgrade my network to 450mbps. Instead of getting an AP which costs about USD 200, I could assemble a mini ITX PC using an Atom D525, 1 GB DDR3, an Intel 6300 wifi card plus 3 external antennas. That would cost about 300, but it's also useful as a NAS and a video surveillance server.

Does anybody know if Intel cards support AP mode?

Thanks in advance,
Axel

there are soon new 450 mbps atheros cards out soon...

watch out for cards with these chipsets:

Atheros AR9380
Atheros AR9390

these will support 450mbps , 3 antennas required, minipci-express only as far as i know ...

these will hit the street in about 1-3 months from now

and dd-wrt will support them Smile

Has anybody tried any of these so far? Isn't the ath9k driver kind of unreliable?
