if you already have a 2.6 version of DD-WRT on your router already, you can flash the kong version directly. it's only prerequisite was to have dd-wrt on the router already. if you flash it, your nat loopback/port forwarding issue should be solved.

i don;t know the answer to your openvpn question. even though the 3.x kernel version expands the nvram to 64K, doesn;t seem like anybody is using openvpn on this platform to take advantage of it.

Minimally 14929 is required. The best build would be Kong 22000++ or a K3.x if you need 64 kB NVRAM or USB hard disk greater than 2 TB.

I'm... extremely new to this stuff... I'm not even sure what you mean by "64 kB NVRAM or USB hard disk greater than 2 TB." hahaha. But I don't see those builds on the N16 page, is it safe(r)? Any performance difference? Where would I get it..?

Thanks! Found that while trying to familiarize myself with different ddwrt builds.

That answers my last question, any input on the first two?

USB hard disk means an external hard disk attached to the router's USB port.

NVRAM means the memory for storing settings, 32 kB is very low for example for OpenVPN. With 64 kB you have more room for configuring OpenVPN and other services.

Hi! Sorry to bother, but are there any restrictions on this site? I get this message, when I try to enter the site:
Quote:
Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /ddwrt/K26/r22000++/kingkong-nv32k-broadcom.bin on this server.

Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Funny, but it really blocks my attempts to enter the site from my home PC (just checked). But now I'm at work, we have Finnish IP - everything is fine... They do not like Russian IPs there? Laughing

Hello,

I have a asus rt-n16 with "DD-WRT v24-sp2 (06/08/12) mega
(SVN revision 19342)".

I'm exeperiencing problems with cron, it don't likes to restart automatically after reboot and manually restarting it vanishes my main need: update a custom dns for ip changes etc (no dyndns/other services).

I would like to use a newer rom (eg. K3), can someone please tell me the kernel versions I should upgrade through?

Should I move from K24 to K26 (which one?) then to K3 ?

Thank you for any help,
Sq.

Ok,

I realized now that mine was a stupid question...

dmesg shows:

Linux version 2.6.24.111 (root@dd-wrt) (gcc version 4.1.2) #10757 Fri Jun 8 02:20:33 CEST 2012
CPU revision is: 00019740
Determined physical RAM map:
memory: 07fff000 @ 00000000 (usable)
Entering add_active_range(0, 0, 32767) 0 entries of 256 used
Zone PFN ranges:
Normal 0 -> 32767
HighMem 32767 -> 32767

So I suppose I'm on K26 with 32mb already.

Quoting:

In order to get a 3.x kernel build onto the Asus RT-N16, you need to go from a 2.6 kernel build to 3.x 21530 then to the latest. NVRAM gets expanded to 64K.

Should I update to 21530 mega first, then move to any recent K3 (big)?
