it might not be your router, it might be one of your devices causing the errors. _________________ Please state what make and model router plus the build number and type of DD-WRT you are using. I have checked many of the wired clients, and about half of the wireless ones, no change when they were removed. I will continue to check the rest, the only thing I have changed on my RT-N16 is to reboot every night at midnight (so I can clear the TX errors), but I think I will change that back to staying on until I reboot the system so I can narrow down the problem.
yes, these are the steps. you can substitute the 6-14 version with the latest. the only steps you must do is first flash the 2.6 version of dd-wrt(14989) or the latest 2.6 version if you want, the the interim 3.x version of 21530. after you do that, you can go to the latest 3.x version.
the distinction here is that on this router, in order to upgrade the router to the 3.x version, it must first have a 2.6 version of dd-wrt on it, then the 3.x 21530 to format the memory correctly, then you can install the latest.
other questions you might have-no you don;t want to stay on 3.x 21530 as it;s broken and features don;t really work on it. we just used it to get 3.x on the router. no, you can;t flash the latest 3.x version on the router directly without first installing 21530. just a quirk in this router.
goodluck!
Gents,
I just finished flashing DD-WRT on my new RT-N16. I currently have DD-WRT v24-sp2 (08/12/10) mini (SVN revision 14929). I found the steps posted above but I am having the hardest time trying to find 2.6 version dd-wrt(14989) as recommended.
Would someone be so kind as to provide direct links to what I need after DD-WRT v24-sp2 (08/12/10) mini (SVN revision 14929)? Same for the 3.0 versions I will need after that?
It would be great if there was a sticky at the beginning of this thread that displayed the steps with links. I'm somewhat technical but can be dim at times so something like that would help me, and those attempting to do what I am trying to do.
Thanks.
if you already have a 2.6 version on your router, you already have what you need to go to first to 21530 3.x then the latest 3.x version. _________________ Please state what make and model router plus the build number and type of DD-WRT you are using. on page 12 of this thread has a post with all the instructions and links including 21530.
getting the latest is such a frequently asked question, i put the answer in my signature.... _________________ Please state what make and model router plus the build number and type of DD-WRT you are using. If I go to this latest link below (or any link before that for this year) in referencing the links in your signature I see no latest download for the RT-N16:
the trx version is supposed to be for flashing straight from as Asus webgui but as you know that won't work. i think its a holdover fropm some legacy script that autogenerates these firmwares. however, if you already have the 3.x dd-wrt on the router you can use it as well(no difference from the big version as far as i can tell. _________________ Please state what make and model router plus the build number and type of DD-WRT you are using. Has there been known and experienced performance issues with this router?
The reason I ask is because we have some uploads going on right now on one of my LAN computers and it is totally bogging down the WAN connection. My usually bandwidth is around 75 Mbps down and around 4.5 Mbps up but right now during the upload they both are below 1 Mbps.
That just doesn't seem right.
I believe the 2.6 kernel versions have a native Asus/Broadcom network driver. the 3.x version have a generic compatible network driver so WAN throughput on 3.x versions will be worse. _________________ Please state what make and model router plus the build number and type of DD-WRT you are using. Hello folks, I am currently running a very old build on my RT-N16, v24sp2 mega, build 18024. I understand that if I wish to go to a kernel 3.x build I would first need to go to build 21530 before proceeding to the latest. BUT if I stay on a kernel 2.6 build can I upgrade direct to the latest build (27805 for example)? or are there issues with upgrading that far in one shot?
if you stay with 2.6, you should be able to update to the latest 2.6 version without issue.
you may want to do a reset to defaults when flashing the firmware from the webgui administration tab or do a 30/30/30 reset afterwards if your router doesn;t come back though-there may be outdated nvram variables. _________________ Please state what make and model router plus the build number and type of DD-WRT you are using.
