Great upgrade antennas IF you don't need omni-directional.
I got a very good signal boost upgrading to those panel directional antennas.
3 of them will fit on the RT-N16 - they just fit!
I needed to get a signal across the house, through multiple walls.
BUT, I only needed it in 1 direction for a multimedia PC.
These were perfect for what I needed, and really easy to aim these antennas.
They are somewhat Omni-directional if you are within about 5 meters of the router
and no more than 1 inner wall between the wireless device and the router. _________________ Soylent Green Is People !

is safe run it at 20dBm with stock configuration? (no fans or heatsinks added)
I get poors signal in certain zones of my house at 17dBm, but better recepcion at 20dBm, but i´m afraid that maybe the router gets too hot.
Why don't you simply add a few antennas DoesItMatter mentioned. It will be a more safe solution. _________________ Upgraded to

I've been having some issues with my RT-N16. I've tried all of the recent builds, including the one posted on 3/10/2011, but my router is dropping multiple time throughout the day. It drops when under heavy load, and drops when everything is just idling.
I know the 26 builds are supposed to be less stable or something, is this just something I have to deal with? Is the firmware from ASUS more stable? I don't really need any fancy features, but stability is an absolute MUST for me.
I'm wondering if it's also a hardware issue and I should look into getting this one replaced (only bought it last month)

Just a follow up to this post, I flashed back to the ASUS firmware immediately after I wrote this, and have not had a single drop since.
So, if you're having issues with the router constantly dropping the connection and don't need some of the expanded features from the dd-wrt firmware, it might be worth going back to the ASUS firmware until another dd-wrt build comes along.
Your mileage may vary, I fully admit that this could also be a isolated incident pertaining to my particular router or setup, somehow.
edit: Yeah, ok. It's still dropping. Probably not a firmware issue, then. Guess I'll have to RMA this one. *sigh*

Getting good solid signal - and yes, as mentioned above - they do well on 2.4Ghz Wireless-N
I upgraded the network card on the multimedia PC and it now has 2 - 9dbi omnis.
With the 3 panel antennas + 2 9dbi omnis, 50 feet distance, I get full bar signal strength.
Working awesome! Even through 4 walls & a garage of stuff!
I mostly stream internet stuff, don't do a lot of file sharing.
I will perform some file transfer tests over the network and report results. _________________ Soylent Green Is People !

Anyone else having issues with the router's WAN connection crapping out when there's lots of simultaneous connections (ie, BitTorrent)? I was losing my WAN IP address for hours at a time randomly when I ran BT. I had to drop the "Max connections per torrent" to 20 and "max connections globally" to 30 to stop getting dropouts. Now I can use BT continuously, but it's pretty slow.
Using Vuze on OS X. DD-WRT v24-sp2 (12/24/10) big

I'm on 15778. Out of curiousity I opened 25 torrents at once, and I have no issues.
I do cap my upload/download to 80% of my speed, which is 1.2 MB/sec down and 50 KB/sec up.
Web is still easily browseable with no delays. ddwrt reports 1300 connections.
I haven't had to reset ddwrt since I flashed it quite some time ago now (couple months at least.)
When it gets hot here I'll probably have to do a fan mod though.
Wow, I so lost track of things... now that I've re-acquired this RT-N16, I'm trying to get it running at home, and finding I can't set any reserved IPs. I enter them, I hit Save or Apply, and... nothing. Page refreshes, reservation listings are blank, DHCP table shows the original dynamic IPs given out.
This is using DD-WRT v24-sp2 (12/24/10) big - build 15962.
Looking for updates as well (under /others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2) and not seting RT-N16 listed at all, even for the build I have. For the live of me, I can't remember which download I used for this thing before. Blargh.
Pardon my apparent stupidity, I'm not usually this out-to-lunch...
Edit: okay, think I know what I'm after... K26, big.bin - so what's the word on the latest "usable" (I won't use the "s" word) version for this model? I see the latest available is 16875 - is that ssssssss..... safe?
Thanks... I actually grabbed the big build and went ahead and slapped it on, and so far it's working great - even the interface seems way faster than 15962.

I think I may have found a solution to this, for anyone else that's having the same issue. Under Administration -> Management, I changed the TCP congestion control to cubic, dropped the maximum ports to 3072, and dropped the TCP timeout to 120. Haven't had the router lose it's WAN IP address yet.
