I am currently running the Tomato Raf, because it gave me OpenVPN support.
Now I would like to use my 4G modem with my router and also keep my OpenVPN support.

I have read some threads on the forum with people trying out this modem with no luck.

Is there a build that works with this modem and router? And does it have OpenVPN support?

One can not judge a Huawei modem by its E-number, there are a couple of different E398 so you will have to test yourself.

Hello again, I just used Shibbys firmware with USB modem support.
(tomato-E4200USB-NVRAM60K-1.28.RT-N5x-MIPSR2-101-AIO.bin)

But I only get 3G speeds, no where near 4G speeds as I get when using other routers.

What more is needed besides the E-number?

Do we know if any firmware has 4G support?

Anyone? Is there anything I can do to enable 4G/LTE speeds?

Try to use a antenna, maybe the 4G signal is too weak.

Yes, don't ask Tomato configuration questions in the dd-wrt forum - they have their own forum for that.
