|
hi all-
i'm struggling to get two subnets talking to each other and could use some ideas / troubleshooting thoughts.
i'm using this tutorial:
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Linking_Subnets_with_Static_Routes
Router 1 is setup as:
IP: 192.168.1.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
WAN: ISP IP
Router 2 is setup as:
IP: 192.168.2.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
WAN: 192.168.1.40 (plugged into LAN port on Router 1)
static route on Router 1 :
Metric: 1
Dest Lan NET: 192.168.2.0
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.40
firewall rule on Router 1:
iptables -I FORWARD -s 192.168.2.0/24 -j ACCEPT
router 2 set the operating mode to router from gateway.
the problem is:
both subnets / clients can talk to the internet fine but neither subnet can ping clients on the other... so the subnets are not talking to each other.
am i missing something in my steps? that seemed to be all that was needed... any idea how i can troubleshoot this?
one other thing to note is that if i set router 2 in gateway mode, i can ping from clients on router 2 -> clients on router 1 but not from clients on router 1 -> clients router 2. but once in routing mode, nothing is pingable.
really appreciate any help / ideas.
