Hello,

Yesterday I received my new Asus RT-N66U VER.B1 router.
After having first viewed the standard opportunities I started installing DD-WRT.

I followed the steps located here. http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Asus_RT-N66U
First reset to default settings from the GUI.
Than I used the Asus webGUI upload to upload the K26 mini file first: http://dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/others/eko/V24-K26/svn18946/dd-wrt.v24-18946_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_RT-N66U.trx
After uploading I received the message "Firmware upgrade is done. Please reboot RT-N66U mamually" see 1.jpg attachment.
I wait for an extra 10 min and switch it Off and On.

After the reboot I browse again (with my static laptop IP 192.168.1.12) to address 192.168.1.1
After a while I receive the following messeage in the browserpage:

"Settings have been updated. Web page will now refresh. Changes have been made to the IP address or port number. You will now be disconnected from RT-N66U. To access the settings of RT-N66U, reconnect to the wireless network and use the updated IP Address and port number"

Is my IP number to access to router changed???

I switch Off the router and switch it On again.
The power led is blicking slow maining it's booting in recovery mode.
I browse to 192.168.1.1 again and come in to the ASUSTeK miniWeb Server mode.

From this stage, I try to go back to the original Asus firmware version 3.0.0.4.374.4561
I upload it from this CFE succefully, but after a reboot or reset it is only booting into this CFE miniWeb Server.

Please Help what to do now !!!!

Regards,
Bocky

Before flashing that build, did you make sure which bootloader your router has? 32k nvram or 64k nvram?
Try the firmware restoration tool.

I guess, the firmware restoration tool is the one diliverd from original cd?
Wich firmware do I need to flash from this restoration tool in this situation?
Do a flash it with the router in recovery mode?

You can use any if te asus or RMerlin firmwares.
Then once back on stock flash the latest K3.X build. That way you don't need to worry about nvram.
After that use Kong's AC builds.

Yes. Browse to the asus fw and flash it.
Then google rt-n66u dd-wrt and read the wiki page for that unit before you proceed.
You need more info before doing this again.

As malachi said, it is not broken.
Just flash a Merlin firmware and check the CFE version.

Yes It works Smile Thank you guys !!!
It was just a matter of time Embarassed
Patience is the solution !!

The first firmware that succeeded was the Tomato version in 12 min (7mb)
Than I flashed the Merlin version (23mb). This took me 35 min!!
Then flashed the DDWRT version (9mb) in 17 min.

I've made my adjustments, but now I have problems receiving an IP address from my provider on the WAN port Sad
I read somewhere that this is a known issue.
Need your help again guys how to fix this.

I've read this in the wiki:
Note: use build 18946, it fixes the WAN port issue.

But I installed a newer version: dd-wrt.v24-21676_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega_RT-N66U.trx

Do I really need to install an older version to fix this?

Now install this. http://www.desipro.de/ddwrt/K3-AC/23655/
Then telnet into the router and issue nvram erase, then reboot.

Thank you Malachi for your quick response!

Ok try that in the afternoon. I'm on my work now Wink

Why do I need Kong AC firmware? What the difference?
Is a nvram erase in my ddwrt version not enough?

And.. do really need nvram erase true a telenet session or can I also do it from the command page in ddwrt?

Kong's builds are a little more fine tuned. Do the nvram erase through telnet.

Erasing NVRAM is always advised when updating.

Latest Kong release take advantage of the 256Mb that the N66U has Smile

Ok done!
Installed Firmware Version DD-WRT v24-sp2 (03/01/14) kongac - build 23655M

I bought this router because my old WRT320N could not handle speed of 120MB of my cable caonnection,
see topic: http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=883442&highlight=#883442

Kong told me that the new routers could easily handle 360MB with ddwrt on it. But this one NOT!
I'm still hanging at 78MB Sad With the original Asus firmware I get 120mb

Does anyone have any good advice yet?

K3.x builds are indeed slower (as download speed) than K26 builds. But change congestion control to cubic and see if that helps.
