Upgrade Path: From STEP-1:Firmware:DD-WRT v24-sp2 (04/13/11) std-usb-nas - build 16785
To STEP-2:Firmware:DD-WRTdd-wrt V24-sp2 (12/26/14) (Kong Build 257535M)
To STEP-3:Firmware:DD-WRT.v24-29739_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega-e3000
MY GOAL:To streach it to the max (firmwarewise/tweaking etc)so that I can get the last drop "Speed Juice" out of the router without bricking it.
Well after all the upgrades which ended the E3000 with the final firmware DD-WRT.v24-29739_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega-e3000, it worked great but wait, yet E3000 still missed that "spunk" to go that extra mile on the speed which I was looking for to reach the magic number of 200MBytes(Download)/20Mbytes(Upload), which I am subscribed for. I did all the research to find out that it was the "Hardware NAT" issue which DD-WRT/Kong does not support, but Tomato Shibby does, I also tried to do some research in only upgrading the linux module(*.ko Please read the community Gurus who advised me to do it) needed , I tried running the "opkg"and "ipkg"on the USB mount to load additional software, and failed . (That is a long story...do not attempt to take that path, it could be a dead end path). In the mean time I was frustrated that my wireless router downstairs gave faster speeds (ASUS Wireless router ) on E3000 using direct wired connection to router, so I went and bought a new Netgear R7000 router,It is woking greats, now and debating if to upgrade to "KONG" or "BS" build still reading all the feedback by the brave souls (Thank you testers, one day I would like to become one-it must be a fun job! who do the testing and understand the frustrations they face).
This is when the movie shows the "The End- Stay tuned for next Journey-1 of the World of E3000 Turns- Did she get the "Plastic Surgery", did she become the "Princess", and meet the "Charming Prince" oon a "White Horse"?
Journey Phase-2: BOLD JOURNEY to Infinity and Beyond
Took a bold step today and said , give E3000 another chance, send her to a affordable "Plastic Surgeon" (Not to undermine the excellent surgeons like BS and KONG who work tirelessly to give a new life and dreams to old routers.)
Router is up and running Tomato (Shibby) currently
Journey Phase-3: Configuration and Testing to achive "MY GOAL".
(Stay Tuned, the story is being written, Pricess is getting dressed up and makeup put on, "Prince Handsome" just mounted the "White Horse" and is on his way)

I don't like to break this bad news to you, but I think I may have to now as it seems you are making a drama out of the "not so well performing" Linksys E3000 router. Don't relay too much on Fast Nat or Broadcom Hardware NAT, it bypasses some of the Linux goodies, like QOS (Quality of Service) which is needed by VOIP, and BW limiter, and it also bypasses IP accounting and stats which, more often than not, are important. So basically if you run your E3000 with Broadcom Hardware NAT enabled you would put your router into compromised and unstable state. Get a good dual core router. Netgear R7000 router is a good start. That will give you the speed you need. Don't waste your time on Linksys E3000. It is a mediocre unit.

I am happy to report my Phase-3 goals have been achieved, Up front I want to apologize to @tou.manokat@gmail.com, who was instrumental in teaching me the abilities to compile the code for the NAT module for DD-WRT, it was as I said my goal was to stretch the limits of Linksys E3000 to the max to achieve my "Subscribed speeds" from my ISP. I already bought my R7000 and love it and will be fine tuning it further soon if you read my post.
So, let me report about my Phase-3 testing, I went ahead and installed the latest version of Tomato (Shibby version) and followed activation of the NAT module as I had mentioned , and I tested the speeds on speednet.net and also on dslreport.com, the test was spaced at equal intervals in past 20 minutes and was tested three times.
Here are the results:
MY GOAL : Achieved... Princess E3000 had a great plastic surgery and the Prince and Princess live happily ever after.

Ha, ha, okay then. Since you are so keen on Linux modules and scripts now, you should get yourself fully into Linux OS. Debian or CentOS distro is a good start. After which you would be able to turn any Linux supported laptop (PC) into a fast router (gateway).
