Just letting everyone know that it could be run as a binary if you wanted greater control over Unbound. _________________ Asus RT-AC88u running DD-WRT 12-15-2016-r30949

when a package is included in a ddwrt distro you can always run that package directly so long as it's disabled in the webif. I have done so with dnsmasq, unbound, lighhtp, dhcp6c, openvpn, etc
If you disable Unbound in the Web GUI, you could run Unbound that's included with DD-WRT and have it's resolve.conf file stored on /jffs ? _________________ Asus RT-AC88u running DD-WRT 12-15-2016-r30949

i'm a touch confused, you started by promoting a binary created for use on tomato distros then seem unsure how to go about running a native binary.
I think at this point you should start by asking yourself why you want to run a dns resolver instead of a standard dns forwarder (dnsmasq) as a rseolver is generally slower. if your simply looking for DNSSEC just configure dnsmasq to use google dns 8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4 and be done with it. All dns queries via google are automatically protected by DNSSEC. https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/faq
if you have a general need or want to learn how to configure unbound manually start by googling "unbound man"
then you can create a dir ex /jffs/unbound which contains your config, hints, etc and start unbound pointing to that config. dont forget to set username, pid, chroot, hints etc
