I tried to update a Netgear R6400 that I had previously (successfully) flashed with DD-WRT to version 02-07-2017-r31277, using the webflash file. I then got an endless reboot loop. I thought it was something I had done wrong as I updated remotely (via RDP to a local computer) and used a wireless connection (I know, bad idea, but I've done it before without a problem).

The last working version was 12-15-2016-r30949.

I bought another R6400 and without changing ANY factory settings tried the same version (r31277) with the factory-to-ddwrt.chk image and via an ethernet connection and I am seeing the exact same behavior. The power light is solid amber and the only other light is the ethernet port light where I am connected. This happens for about a minute then the wireless light goes on and the units reboot themselves.

I get an about 4-5 second window of replies to pings to 192.168.1.1 on boot and have tried flashing both via tftp with the netgear firmware, the factory-to-ddrwt.chk file as well as the webflash version and nothing happens with any of them. I've used tftp many times with Linksys and Buffalo routers so I'm familiar with the process.

So, I'm warning against this version with this router and I'm wondering if anyone has had any success recovering the R6400 and if so, how.

have you tried Kong builds for R6400, have you erased nvram ?
i believe Kong builds are the best for your unit... give it a try...

also if you are running .chk onece you are running DD-WRT it suppose to flash with .bin to upgrade to next build ..
.chk is only for first flash if you want to move to next upgrade you need .bin

Since he is stuck in an endless reboot loop he can't flash any Kong builds.
Google dd-wrt serial recovery. If you don't want to try that and you are in the USA, if you want to pay for shipping, I can do it for you.
