Status: Fail

Errors: Unable to install, keep blinking power led all times, back to DD-WRT v3.0-r31571 std (03/04/17) working fine

The firmware.bin size is too large to install on 160NL after build r31645.
Not sure if / when this will be fixed....They might not fix it this time Evil or Very Mad

Strange, it installed fine on my 160NL

Yes Sir, my bad -- the r31690 is ok for file size
r31690
7,996,416 bytes

Linksys WRT160NL
DD-WRT v3.0-r31690 std (03/17/17)
Linux 3.10.105 #29898 Fri Mar 17 02:51:15 CET 2017 mips

The r31671 & r31678 were too big both at -
8,000,512

I have run across some weirdness where 31690 will not install on some of my units --

If you run dmesg and look just under the MTD parts you'll see 'Oops: flash id'
See if yours is ->Oops: flash id 0x1c2017 .
and
maybe ndttung has ->Oops: flash id 0xc22017 .

I have two E2100L & two 160NL. All have ->Oops: flash id 0xc22017 .
None of these four routers will install build r31645 or later (GUI or TFTP - they just will not install).
And most builds of last few years always required TFTP to get the firmware on them.

Also have a third 160NL which has ->Oops: flash id 0x1c2017 .
It will install any build (provided file size is not too big)

I was looking into 'this' the other day but got bored messing with it.

dmesg
->Oops: flash id 0x1c2017

Not sure how to look for ndttung?

I had wondered why you kept posting that you needed to TFTP the firmware when I was able to web flash

This 160NL was an old SamKnows monitoring router, I unlocked it using RS232 USB > Serial and PuTTY / Command Prompt IIRC years ago

Took me a while to figure out the difference.
Maybe BS can fix it so can install on these others.
Of the 5 routers only 1 has same flash ID as yours.
Mine all came from eBay few years back so don't know of their true orgin. No hint from back tag....all look same to me.
All had stock FW when I got them...

thanks -
The J7 in ser no. same as mine with that flash ID.

I don't have pic of the E2100L handy but they both have same other flash ID --- they are same as 160NL but have 64 RAM rather than 32.
Probably could do deep search on ser no. might shed some light.
I'll look into it more afterlater. We hijacked this thread enough I reckon Cool

Does anyone know if the ACK time is auto when set to 0 on this build? I've tried various settings on a bridge at 50m and setting it to 0 is always slower than setting it to 350 (which seems ridiculously too far for my link but works).

Most likely the best setting for that router would be 900 for ack timing.
450 still works fine for me with the wndr3700v4 on new builds but your 3 × 3 radio with new dd-wrt builds might be better at 900

Router Model
TP-Link TL-WR841ND v9
Firmware Version
DD-WRT v3.0-r31690 std (03/17/17)
Kernel Version
Linux 3.18.48 #2273 Fri Mar 17 03:41:37 CET 2017 mips

So far just anecdotal results after one day. No problems noted from a data network standpoint. I also noticed as someone previously did that it shows as 300megabit now again on the wireless, versus 270. The web server on the router seems to respond a lot faster, and the load averages "seem" be be lower.

Noticed a new "syslog" tab on status, but not sure how to use it - which services to enable and settings. I'd be interested in seeing a ram only log - I'd be worried that if it wrote it to flash it would wear out the flash.

Sorry for late reply as i out for work, I still can't flash this firmware as it still blinking many times. But i will give it a try later

Also i face a huge problem. with this router WRT160NL, my phone (S7) just can have RX rate 5M, so in the phone also show 5M. For tablet (nexus 7 2013) maximum is 22M. But for latest router such as TL-WR841ND i can have up to 144M on phone and 65M on tablet. So can you help me to increase speed on this?

Edit: mine is Oops: flash id 0xc22017 .

Can you suggest the reliable router with 2.4 and 5 Ghz with good speed and not too expensive? thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

I'm using 31611 on my 160NL routers that have flash id 0xc22017 .
Last that will install I think on them. Easiest way to install without losing setting is use GUI and then when it goes into flashing power light set static IP on computer to 192.168.1.5 and TFTP the 31611 firmware.bin to it at 192.168.1.1
Don't matter what its IP was before -- if continuous flashing power it will only take at 192.168.1.1 but when fully boots up your previous settings will be good. Done it many times. Might have to unplug network cable or restart computer when set back to your regular network before can access router or power cycle it after is has fully booted.

I am only using two 160NL routers 24/7 as dedicated WDS links between two same subnet LAN locations.
I can get 42.25 Mbps across link. This is approx 450m dist.
You should get ok wireless with this build if settings are right.
You can also try the older 27858 or 29837 that worked well for me on the 160NL.
ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/
A cheap router that will do a lot of work and is very solid w/dd-wrt would be the Netgear WNDR3700v4. I only recommend the ver4 of these Smile They are good routers. I have a 3700v4 running for about 17 hrs w/31722 as my main router and it's doing a lot and doing it very well.

good luck -

EDIT: Idea hmm...alrighthen .... here is the r31611 for 'WRT160NL and E2100L'
