Hi,
So recently I purchased a Nighthawk X4 R7500v2 from Netgear kind of starting to regret it now but before I give up and send the router on it's merry way. I want to see if it can be fixed.
Recently after I installed my new modem from Netgear after getting rid of the Modem/Router combo Spectrum (Time Warner Cable) provided me with. I noticed after a day of use the router would just disconnect a random device and will block the device from connecting to the gateway until restart. I thought at first it was because of a buggy firmware, but even after switching to DD-WRT I noticed all it did was allow me to use the router longer without having problems, but the problems still persist.
Any idea what could be causing this random disconnect? It's never happened to me before, this is the first time I've ever encountered this problem.
I contacted Netgear support, they told me to change the MTU. "Please set the mtu size to 1500, and also try 1492 and 1472." Which did not help.
I'm not the smartest when it comes to Networking so here is where I go for help. I can't even count on Netgear Support, so here I will. All available help is appreciated!
if you have pppoe connection than MTU 1492 is fine in any other cases do not touch it...
so first check your unit for router overheating or bad power adaptor, then check all your clients wi-fi/LAN /drivers , than isolate clients one by one.... than check your router drivers/all settings, if you mean wi-fi clients, check for interference any other bacon's around, channels settings, check for malware...
after update rebuild settings manually...use Firefox browser with reset history, cookies, ect.
I've seen some strange activity like that present in the log's... like port turns on/off for some reason, if i plug any client to this port it works with no problems even for long periods but never had your case....and do not have the same unit....but that's what i would ve try first _________________ Atheros

Thanks but today I have encountered a new problem. My router now doesn't allow me to connect to its login page at all. I've tried multiple ways to get into it and the login just does not show up.
I was messing around with it after I posted, and I guess I changed a setting and now it's no-longer accessible. I don't know how to factory reset, I tried this method 'https://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Hard_reset_or_30/30/30' did not work, or at least didn't help. Kept prompting me to download some weird files after boot with FS of 314bytes.
*edit*
I should note the Power LED light on my router was blinking but I didn't know what it meant. I kinda just powered it off and back on.
I was able to get a bit closer to the router login page. it says this 'SSH-2.0-dropbear_2016.74 ý®NzìÞlÊIQùÒÈ÷²Pdiffie-hellman-group14-sha1,diffie-hellman-group1-sha1,kexguess2@matt.ucc.asn.aussh-rsa+aes128-ctr,aes256-ctr,aes128-cbc,aes256-cbc+aes128-ctr,aes256-ctr,aes128-cbc,aes256-cbchmac-sha1,hmac-md5hmac-sha1,hmac-md5nonenone@ËC'

well its smells like someone took over your router like...
if you still have telnet on, try to telnet to your router
use putty program, telnet and issue this commands:
erase nvram
reboot
then manually rebuild your settings and make sure you use strong password...
also on R7500v2 you can start the recovery Tftpd by pressing reset button, then power on, count till 15 and Tftpd is started and you can Tftp a new firmware to the router....
if you dont use pppoe connection than you can specify mac address that are able to connect to GUI only using IPtables... _________________ Atheros
