You can't use the chk files from the v1 r6700. This version has been impossible to get actual specs on from Netgear or online. I will be returning it and getting the TPLink Archer C9. Faster and about the same price. Sad about the flash size, but at this point we don't even know if this router will ever be supported.

Did the box say v2, or does it not indicate? I just ordered a R6700 from Amazon; have to return it if that's the version that they're shipping. Thanks for the heads-up from both of you.

So I ordered this R6700 off Amazon because I was told it would perform the same as my R7000 once DDWRT was loaded. Disappointingly, it came through as a v2. I may try and hunt a v1 down on ebay, but curious if anyone can recommend an equivalent or better router that's DDWRT friendly (besides an R7000)?

Thanks for any advice.....

I got a R7000 when they first came out. If I were looking now, I would probably get an R6400. Don't misunderstand, I love my R7000 and highly recommend it, but the R6400 was't available when 3 years ago when I got my R7000, and the R7000 really is overkill for our needs.

Well for me, all i want is something with same or better wireless coverage than R7000.

Looking at spcs, R6400 is R6300v2 dressed as R7000, R6700 was a R7000 that is cheaper!

True, but the R6400 also has 128k of nvram.

What about the R6900, have you looked at that?

It would appear that the R6900 isn't listed on the DDWRT list. Can it still be flashed?

I was checking out better routers like the RT-AC88u and the R7800, but wondering if the better hardware buys me much with phones and a laptop with only an internal AC adapter? If it's not worth the extra money, I'll just either get an R7000 or try and pick up a R6700 v1 off ebay.

i don't think so, even i know the processing power of the R7000 is an overkill for the load im going to put at it. i just need something stable, with very good coverage

Then I don't think you would need more than a R6400.
