I think the v3/v4 firmwares are interchangeable so not much to worry about there. I was looking an ASUS too and decided last minute on the C9 after a price drop.

Sounds like you hit the same Amazon sale I did. Smile

I hit the same amazon sale too! lol.

All was well after the first flash, I went from the stock tplink firmware to the firmware that first included the v3 support (10-17-2017-r33525). DDWRT booted fine into the web interface, then i figured i should at least update to December (12-29-2017-r34311) flashed that, and boom, never to boot again lol.

I've already started the return process with amazon, should have a new unit by tomorrow, I would not flash the 12-29-2017-r34311 at this point. Oddly enough, that version also does not have a factory.to.ddwrt.bin file i just noticed, wonder why.

Wowsers!

I was just downloading the latest r34311 build for C9 v3.

So glad I found this topic.

I got my router yesterday, flashed factory-to-ddwrt.bin no problem, then flashed v3.0-r33986 std (12/04/17)

Last night, in the middle of a Netflix show, the router locked up, I was not able to ping 192.168.1.1 nor get a shell. Did a power cycle, continued my Netflix show without issues. Still running, but have not used Netflix since last night. Will update if I get more lock ups on r33986.

I did not enable jffs2 at all, and certainly won't now.

Will NOT upgrade to r34311, and I'll stay glued to this thread.

Hi again.

Just FYI i got my replacement router (TP-Link c9 v3 1900)loaded it with the factory-to-ddwrt.bin (11-16-2017-r33772) and everything is fine so far. I will stay on this ver for a wile until someone is able to verify the other December versions.

Thanks!

Before I put 11-16-2017-r33772 on my C9 I'd like your opinion.

What compelling reason do I have to use this hardware over a C7? That's what I was going to buy before this Amazon deal. I was under the impression that the C7 was faster but the C9 had better radios.

I just tried upgrading to version r34411 and bricked my brand new router. They may want to block downloads on the F/W until they have a test router and are sure it's resolved.

Hi, My Archer C9V3(EU) has been running ddwrt version r33006 for archer-c9v2 fine for almost a year (yes a C9V3 running C9V2 ddwrt firmware). Recently I tried upgrading to C9V3 r34411 thru web and bricked my router. Now only the blue refresh light is steadily on at all time.

I connected again to the serial port thru terminal and got this boot log:

Does anyone know what is the "factory boot check integer flag"? I did also tried flashing the previous version using the CFE flash command, it does seems loading and flashing the firmware but it shows the same error after reboot.

Thanks in advance!

Me too. Any success in bringing it back to life?
I see that web interface (only with firmware upload) is working on a 192.168.0.1 IP, but I couldn't find any firmware that will be accepted.

I can remove a working SPI flash and read an image. How would someone get this back onto their board without having to remove the chip and program it externally?

If you could do so then perhaps someone can divide the extracted image into different partitions and flash it back via SSH.

From what i read, the c9 has a dual core cpu (BCM4709), and the same range with more throughput. With the deal that amazon was having (79$) it was a steal i thought. I upgraded from my Asus AC66u (another single core cpu) because i wanted to test setting up PIA over OpenVPN to deal with other user downloads in this household. Unfortunately the throughput was not the single core CPU of the Asus AC66u (which was maxed out when enabled), since the throughput on this one is not very good either (CPU utilization isn't affected much or the readout isn't working in the GUI properly?). Normally I have a 230/10 pipe, which is reduced to 12/10 with the VPN enabled at the router.

But, since i have 2 cores now, maybe i can do more stuff? IDK yet.
