I bought my WRT3200acm a couple days ago.

I noticed that it was having an issue with limited wifi output and ethernet speed. I have gigabit internet but I was only getting 400mbps. I've tried to download the older firmware from Linksys Support within these forums. But once it installs, it reboots with the power light on and then nothing. I can ping the IP address it assigns, but there's no internet. It's a weird IP like 169.254.
It also won't let me install any open source firmware. DD-WRT, LEDE, etc. Nothing works. Those do similar things, but DD-WRT has the power LED on and ESATA...then it turns off three times and reboots into Linksys firmware.

Does anyone have any idea what I can do? I read and followed all the steps in the forums. No clue what is going on. After spending more time today, it seems that the wrt3200acm is a terrible first router to go to DD-WRT with?

You need to contact linksys right away or just take the router right back where you got it. NOW!

I know exactly what you should do, based on my 2 years of grief with wrt3200. Return and get a decent router. Such as Netgear R7800 or Asus rt-ac86u.
You will be much happier and have a better experience.

The reason you get a 169.245 ip-adress, is that the router isn’t assigning an address to your client. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Link-local_address

A factory reset would probably get you going again: https://www.linksys.com/us/support-article?articleNum=208662#t1

DD-WRT is more demanding than the Linksys firmware. You should expect spending some time, reading and configuring any router.

"Spending some time reading"

Please read this
https://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=313652

it explains why the information you gave (except the reading part) doesn't apply in this case.
P.S, had you read his entire post you would know this already, perhaps reading the complete post on which we are commenting on would be most helpful. Smile

myersw, aairon & LookingForMyMojo, and myself are trying to give you some sound advice!!
The 3200acm has been out almost two years and is still suffering from too many issuse's to list!!!
If you just purchased your router you very well may have a unit built in Sept of 2017 were they changed the nand chip!
Return it if you can and save yourself from the headache's !!!
Read: this link.

Good luck Mark
