Hi there,

I have a TP-link TL-WR841ND v9 running DD-WRT v3.0-r29598

My goal is to set up dd-wrt wifi router correctly to create an "untouched" ethernet bridge from an ethernet port to the wifi.

I am testing a wireless set top box and basically it needs direct access to the IPTV uplink for dhcp and multicast. I cant have it behind a 192.168.x.x network.

How can I set up the ddwrt wifi router so that it is basically just a dumb ethernet / wifi switch, and doesnt touch the traffic between wifi and wan/lan?

ISP IPTV (no vlan) -> cat5 -> ddwrt wan port -> ddwrt wifi port -> wifi set top box.

Thanks for any help. Sorry if I posted to the wrong forum, I am new here.

Thanks for pasting that guide!

Problem is, I need the DD-WRT router to act as layer 2 only. It will not be simultaneously used for internet. Just a layer 2 dumb switch with wifi.

The wifi IPTV set top box needs an IP address from the IPTV uplink. It can not be in a local subnet and have the DD-WRT act as a router.

The router isn't allowed to have an IP address on this particular kind of network. The IPTV uplink needs to see the wifi set top box MAC address and the DD-wrt router needs to look completely transparent. I am willing to give up management capabilities of the DD-WRT router by changing it's configuration so that it does not have an IP address.

You need to setup according to this guide: https://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Wireless_Access_Point

Thanks,

This gude requires I set some sort of IP address on some interface. Im looking to not set any IP addressing and keep it layer 2 between my wifi and the lan uplink.

A wireless Acces Point is a layer 2 solution. But to administrate this WAP it needs an IP address so you can connect to it, but you give it an IP address in the range of the primary router.
The primary router also handles the firewalling/DHCP etc for all clients, this is not done by the WAP as it is a "simple" layer 2 solution e.g. it is on the same network segment as the primary router.
