Hi

Does anyone have same problem with LED brightness?

When i got WRT1900ACS v1 they were fine but over time they started to degrade their brightness but only the front row. Side row where ethernet LEDs are located they seem fine. I suspect there must be some faulty component on PCB that degrades over time causing LEDs getting dimmer and dimmer over time. As far as i know these LEDs cannot be controlled via firmware.

Mine is the same, but they're a lot dimmer. In daylight you have to get real close to see if the Power/Internet/2.4 LEDs are even lit. 5Ghz isn't as bad, and the LAN side is still bright.

Mostly just annoying when it reboots as you can't see when the radio has come back on (or failed to).

Those lights have always been dimmer on my WRT1900AC V1 and WRT1900ACS V1. About what you show in the picture.

Figured I'd chime in since I have a WRT1200, and it is the same also as pictured. I can't recall if it has always been like that or not.

Just a quick update. Replaced WRT1900ACS v1 with WRT3200ACM. First day LEDs were on pair with ethernet LEDs. Then after a day or two LEDs for WAN, 2G, 5G, USB... started to get a bit dimmer, not bad as it was on WRT1900ACS, but you can notice a difference. I just wonder what the cause could be. Bad LEDs or some component on PCB. I'm not electrical enigneer but i suspect there must be some component on PCB that degredates over time, causing LEDs to loose brightness over time. It would be interesting to mesure voltage on ethernet LEDs which seem fine and on the 'dimmer ones'.

Same here on my wrt1200, i can't remember if it's always been that way or not either, i do remember that you might be able to adjust brightness level in OpenWrt/LEDE by adjusting settings in /sys/class/leds, but i don't know of any way to do it in DD-WRT.

# The default brightness of 255 on my USB 1 is too bright, so setting it to 60
echo "60" > /sys/class/leds/tlc59116:led_usb2/brightness

You are right were are some settings for brightness value from 0 for off and 255 for the brightest.

https://github.com/Chadster766/McWRT/issues/4

But the driver does fully implement brightness. So on my board:
>
> echo 128 > /sys/class/leds/wrt1900ac\:white\:wan/brightness
>
> will set that LED to 128/256 brightness. You have 255 steps of
> brightness.

i have a wrt1900acs a used one from eBay, the 2.4 and 5 leds are hardly seeable.
it was previously on Openwrt in both partitions i only mention this because of the output below (saying Shelby?).
I've flashed Linksys back on 1 partition and dd-wrt on the other, now boot into dd-wrt.
Before i purchase new smd 0603 leds (because of the size soldering them not the cost) i would like to make 100% sure they are turned up as bright as they will go.
can someone tell me the command to turn them right up on this wrt1900acs v1 please?
i ran the command ls -l /sys/class/leds output is as follows
root@DD-WRT:~# ls -l /sys/class/leds

hi, yes i had found that and ordered some led replacements from eBay myself, just wanted to make 100% sure these lights were turned up fully especially with the Shelby bit being in the putty output. The Shelby bit may be normal on this output i just don't know that's why i was asking before i go ahead with the soldering iron because there very small and i would be gutted to change them to find they've been turned down

I can hardly see any of the LEDs on my WRT1900AC v1, however, this does not concern me for a couple of reasons:

1) The r31924 firmware that I am running is rock solid and I can trust it to stay up (almost indefinitely).
2) My router is in line of sight with my TV, so having very dim LEDs is advantageous IMHO Laughing

I confirm, I also with time on wrt3200 very strongly faded 3 LEDs, now I soldered new.
You can check the brightness in the U-boot command -
Code:
mfg led all [on/off]
