I just installed DD-WRT v3.0-r31791 std (03/30/17) on my "TP-Link TL-WR841ND v8" (It's actually a WR941ND V5)

I have it configured as a WAP. The wireless devices could connect to the network but other wired devices WOULD NOT CONNECT.

running these commands (Administration...Commands):

swconfig dev eth0 set enable_vlan 1
swconfig dev eth0 set apply

... click RUN COMMAND
... click SAVE TO STARTUP.

After this everything works great.
This problem existed in the previous build I had running as well, 27944std.

This seems to be necessary with every "new" build. What am I actually doing when I run these commands?

You're adding the wired ports to the same virtual network as the wifi and the WAN port so they can talk to each other. Not sure why it isn't on by default.

It works for my TL-WR941ND v5.0 "new" FCC-ID.
Thanks KrypteX.

I've just modified the header of the DD-WRT 27506 factory-to-ddwrt build intended for TL-WR841NDv8, so it will flash on the
"new" version of TL-WR941NDv5 / WR940Nv2 (TE7WR941NXV5, CPU Atheros AR9341 @535 MHz) running stock TP-Link firmware.
If the attached build works for you, it can be further updated with any newer-than-27506 webflash build for TL-WR841NDv8.

Disclaimer: I haven't tested the attached build myself, so I'm not responsible in any way if you brick your router.
Please only flash this build if you know how to unbrick it.

I have used the TP-Link TL-WR940N V2.1 and upgraded to firmware openwrt for TL-WR941nd-v5 successfully.
Firmware: openwrt-15.05.1-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr941nd-v5-squashfs-factory.bin

I want to confirm that this OpenWRT process worked for my TL-WR940N V2.1 as well!! Nice job!!! 100% safe.

Thanks for the pictures as well. That convinced me to try again to switch the firmware, as I've already tried DD-WRT a year ago, and bricked my router, but later recovered it after *extensive* work.

I have several routers with DD-WRT, but this TP-LINK model and version is not supported.

How did you manage to unbrick it? I just bricked it with this Firmware and it is only the PWR light on - no ping, no wifi - nothing.
Thank you in advance!

EDIT: I managed to unbrick my TL-WR940N v.2.1 FCC ID: TE7WR941NXV5 using the following method:

1. INSTALL TFTP SERVER ON THE PC ( BEST WINDOWS XP) I used Tftpd32-4.52-setup
2. CHANGE INTERFACE IP TO 192.168.0.66 MASK: 255.255.255.0
3. put the file wr941ndv5_tp_recovery.bin in an empty folder. (file attached to this message)
4. START THE TFTP AND CHOOSE THE folder where FILE wr941ndv5_tp_recovery.bin is.
5. press on reset button and power the router.
6. as soon as the wps light comes on release the reset button.
7. the router should reset itself to the factory tplink firmware.

Is it possible to flash a newer beta version from wr841ndv8 such as r35927 straight to wr941ndv5 (the "new" TE7 WR941NXV5) without patching headers (which I don't know how to make it)? The old version from september 2015 provided by KrypteX seems not be very secure anymore...

TP-Links routers have been suffering from a severe bug caused by mDNS flooding (typically coming from Android devices and Apple Bonjour), which completely freezes the routers and need a power cycle to return to normal operation, and TP-Link seems not willing to fix this issue specially for "old" models.

This is my last resort to save the router from the trash can as TP-Link already told me that there is no hope, despite of current models had firmware updates to fix this issue.

FCC ID: TE7WR94NXV5

updated from stock firmware to dd-wrt with the "factory-to-ddwrt_27506_WR941NDv5.bin" from the previous posts, then upgraded (using tl-wr841nd-webflash.bin) to 28598, 30949, 31221, 32170, 34311, 35034 and 36079. Can confirm it's working with all of them, althrough didn't test them enough to notice if they have any bugs.

Thank you for your response. I can also confirm KrypteX "factory-to-ddwrt_27506_WR941NDv5.bin" from here https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=986621#986621 and webupdate to WR841ND v8 r36079 from here ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2018/06-01-2018-r36079/tplink_tl-wr841ndv8/ is working on WR941ND V5 FFC ID TE7WR94NXV5.

Mine is a WR941 v5.1 too. I installed the modified one and it worked flawlessly. However, check your FCC ID before attempting to install DD-WRT. If it ends with 5, you should install the modified one

Ever considered doing an update? I personally use build 29739, never had issues with it. Which exactly issue are you dealing with?
