Hi,

I have a domain and mail hosted with my registrar. I have Outlook set up for my girlfriend (thats wanted she wanted). A few nights ago she said she couldnt send mail. Afer a bit of troubleshooting I determined that my ISP had to have blocked port 25. I called and after some BS from tech support he put me on hold and came back and admitted that indeed port 25 was blocked do to excessive mail comming from my location.

Now I am not running any mail severs on my network. All machines have anti virus etc...

So the only thing I can come up with is something on the router. I'm running SP2 and wonder is there any type of smtp -sendmail or any software that could be on that might be allowing something weird here? Have not checked the router closely..going to fire up ethereal and sniff around...but I got blocked and I am determined to figure out whats going on.

Anyone have any thoughts?
thanks

sounds to me like your isp is blowing smoke up your ass. if the company i pay for an internet connection dared block or limit any of my ports for any reason (except of course i break their TOS which i do not) i'd be switching ISPs.

perhaps one pc is sending spam, search for spambots or unsecured wlan.
In the meantime try using port 587 instead of 25 for sending mail (in Outlook)

Some ISPs block port 25 in an attempt to prevent spamming
my ISP does this too.. yes very annoying i can no longer receive my emails .
now i have to log into web-based gui to read them

I would have felt somewhat better if they told me prior to blocking the port

my ISP (sbc, now AT&T) by default blocks 25 outgoing, but you can request to have the block lifted by your username, and they will do it.
do it as here:
