I assume in step 4 you mean "192.168.99.9" or did you mean the IP range to be "192.168.9.0/24"?..

I mean, Senao devices in recovery mode are given IP address 192.168.99.9/24 when option 1 is chosen.
efloth couple posts above confirms the IP address. Web server is optional, some have some don't.
When option 1 is chosen router will look for tftp server at 192.168.99.8 and "get" file with specific name. Is it uImageECB9500?
I guess tftp logs on PC should reveal what is the name it wants.
I've decoded ECB9500-KNL-V2-2-2-416.dlf with header.x86 and stripped first 192 bytes with dd. Result is attached below.

Code:
binwalk uImageECB9500

DECIMAL      HEX          DESCRIPTION

You can override any or all of these settings from the TTL console. By default, I have 192.168.4.9 for the device IP, 192.168.4.1 for the server and test.bin for the file name. Those are simply the last environment variable values saved to the device.

Yes, that's pretty straightforward to figure out from the logs.

It is as I suspected. The main issue is that I cannot just image this file to the ECB9500. Somehow, something is actually done to the file during the upgrade to install it to the router. Probably some form of copying, extracting and truncating to memory. I can get to the console, I just cannot find the right way to load this image file to the router... it keeps giving me bad magic number errors when I try to boot afterward.
But I was talking about the DD-WRT "firmware.bin" file supplied here that was corrupt. Not the Senao files... those are very likely to be fault-free. Again thank you for your time and efforts in helping me... it is all greatly appreciated.
