just wondering what the benefits are to using a kernel 3.X build over a kernel 2.6 build?

from what i have read, its support for newer routers and 3tb support.

dunno about running better for older routers like the Cisco E3000....

EDIT: it seem slike you can flash the E3000 but it has to be trailed. so its...

any K2.6 build > build K3.x 21605 > any newer k3.x build PAST 21605 k3.x

-supports newer usb hardware e.g. large drives with 4k sectors
-a few new features e.g. http://usbip.sourceforge.net/
-more and newer file systems, optimizations for ssds
-new congestion algorithms e.g. codel http://www.bufferbloat.net/projects/codel/wiki
-2.6 is not maintained anymore so I doubt every security fix is backported to it if it is found and fixed in newer kernels
-is maintained and therefore works with latest toolchains, this is important as newer toolchains include optimizations, security fixes and size optimization for these new cpus

Probably a few more advantages.

would it be worth it to upgrade my linksys e2000 and e900 to a kernel 3.x build? both devices are being used as wds bridges.

i think 3.x kernels support 64k of NVRAM. that could be a big benefit to some.

if your going to flash to k3.x builds, flash from any k2.6 build to build 21605 and then you can flash to another build.

if you flash right to any other k3.x builds besides 21605, you will have problems.
