Hi, I've just bought an Asus RT-N18U to replace an old Linksys WRT54GL fried by a power outage. I installed the recommended firmware (build 24160), but the wireless signal is so weak that it can be barely be received within 50cm. of the router. Using the stock Asus firmware, instead, the signal is very strong. I'd rather use dd-wrt than the stock firmware, because the latter is buggy and doesn't keep my settings, but I can't do without my wireless connection. Is this a common issue with this model, or are there any wireless settings I could try to improve my signal?
Thank you,
goerz
I tried with the latest beta (r26497) and the wireless network is still crippled, it's impossible to connect from any distance. The signal jumps to normal levels only while the reset button is pressed. It looks like this router isn't really compatible with dd-wrt, unless there are some arcane wireless settings to modify.
Besides being newer, is this actually a better build than the one being used by the OP And have you actually tested this build on this router? There seems to be a general problem with this particular router:
And how does upping tx improve signal if rx is not also increased? Wifi is bidirectional. _________________ SIG:

Thank you all for your suggestions. I reverted to stock ASUS firmware for the moment, I can't seem to make the wireless connection work at all under dd-wrt, even when using the latest build.
