With DD-WRT Build 14402 clients connected through wireless will freeze after a while (1-2 hours, maybe more or less). I have a WZR-HP-G300NH (A0 A3), status page says Atheros AR9132 rev 2.

First the connection runs perfect, after a while the pings within the network and to the WAN from the wireless client get spiky, ping times will go up and a little bit later clients will eventually disconnect. I had a look at the log (cat /tmp/var/log/messages) when the first symptoms appeared and i saw this line that seems to indicate a problem:

user.info kernel: ar5416LoadNF: delay for NF loading is not enough, usually rx in progress!

My original setup was a
WAN <--wired--> WRT150N <--wireless--> WZR (client bridge mode) <--wireless--> clients

with WZR as client bridge with standard configuration. I used WAP2-Personal AES for encryption. When I had the problem I changed the WZR to AP configuration and connected it wired to WRT150N:

WAN <--wired--> WRT150N <--wired--> WZR (AP mode) <--wireless--> clients

but no improvement. Same problem, same log entry.

I reverted back to original 1.72 firmware and the connection has been stable since that. So I think hardware is ok (and overheating etc), but there seems to be a problem with dd-wrt. Does anyone know what the log entry means?

There's not stable version of DD-WRT for this router... and I don't expect one in a short term...

your golden ticket to make it work perfectly would be openwrt, but it's a little difficult to work on that firmware for n00bs like me...

openwrt has some major problems on this router(at least with the trunk build I've tried). On dd-wrt, we see wireless drop but on openwrt? random reboot.

i did have the same issue with factory firmware 1.72.
wondering if its a hardware issue afterall.

but after i restored factory default. reconfigure everything. so far its stable for almost a week no reboot.

any idea what this log entry means?:

user.info kernel: ar5416LoadNF: delay for NF loading is not enough, usually rx in progress!

This time the connection lasted about a day, but then I started some high speed downloads and there it was again!

There have been a couple of new releases since last time I tried, so I gave r14815 a try. I have been using the router in AP mode for over a week on original firmware without any wireless connection drops, with the following setup:

WAN <--wired--> WRT150N <--wired--> WZR (AP mode) <--wireless--> clients

So today I "upgraded" from 1.74 to r14815 (file: buffalo_to_ddwrt_webflash-MULTI.bin) and put the router in the same configuration (AP mode, full 20mhz etc.) and had the first disconnect after about 3 hours. The log does not provide any useful information about the cause to me. I see a lot of "resetting" entries. And then: 12:47:44 DD-WRT daemon.info hostapd: ath0: STA 00:24:23:XX:XX:XX IEEE 802.11: disassociated. I was watching a streamed flash from the internet on this client when it disconnected out of the blue.

For those who are interested in the log entries:

I'm having the same problem, I tried the build after 14406 (forgot what number) and now the 14684, still having this problem. It seems like whenever there's too much wireless throughput, the connection dies. I have to disconnect and reconnect, then everything works again

I have the same suspicion as r34p3rex, the disconnect seems to be triggered by heavy throughput. One client with low streaming traffic can stay on for a while without any problem, but if you add clients and/or traffic it seems to expedite the disconnect.

The resetting entries also occur while there is no client connected, like last night:

Code:

Jul 26 22:03:05 DD-WRT user.warn kernel: Resetting; Code: 01
Jul 26 23:09:00 DD-WRT user.warn kernel: Resetting; Code: 01
Jul 27 00:14:36 DD-WRT user.warn kernel: Resetting; Code: 01
Jul 27 01:20:02 DD-WRT user.warn kernel: Resetting; Code: 01
Jul 27 02:25:23 DD-WRT user.warn kernel: Resetting; Code: 01
Jul 27 03:30:45 DD-WRT user.warn kernel: Resetting; Code: 01
Jul 27 04:35:58 DD-WRT user.warn kernel: Resetting; Code: 01
Jul 27 05:41:04 DD-WRT user.warn kernel: Resetting; Code: 01
Jul 27 06:46:01 DD-WRT user.warn kernel: Resetting; Code: 01

So this means, there is no real indication from the log what causes the disconnect...

i have the Buffalo WZR-HP-AG300H, and ive been having issues with it, im using it as a wireless access point.
Sometimes the wireless will quit working until i reset it...

is there anything i can do to fix this?

in the log it says "Jan 1 01:03:42 DD-WRT user.warn kernel: Resetting (wifi0); Code: 03"

Those who are suffering from the "Resetting" issue may work around it by using cron jobs:
http://kinglee.blogspot.com/2010/07/buffalo-whr-hp-g300n-wireless-drop-on.html

The corresponding bug in Trac: http://svn.dd-wrt.com:8000/ticket/1500

For noobs like me, I installed OpenWRT and I have not had one reboot on this router since I did it. I have not lost wireless once and it has been insanely stable.

For a more noob friendly firmware you can download gargoyle, which is based on Openwrt but has a way more user friendly interface and works great and is updated very frequently.

I wrote the following script to restart the router's wireless according to /var/log/messages posting wireless issues. The timings are a little shorter than 1 minute/10 minutes in case things drop between there. This is a triage for the issue on my WZR-HP-AG300H, which seems to suffer from the same issue anyway:

Code:

# By m1st0, 2011 with input from http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Buffalo_WZR-HP-G300NH
#! /bin/sh

# Or just put it in the nvram startup
#nvram set rc_startup='{The Rest of this script without the brakets here}'

# set up variable to track waiting times
restarted_wifi=false
# Check interface every minute
logger "Starting to check wifi status"
while sleep 50; do
  # set up variable to track waiting times
  restarted_wifi=false
  #logger "Restarted wifi after while var = $restarted_wifi"
  # Check for the most recent message of WiFi dropping out, unsure if it is the same as the other hang below
  #logger "Starting first if"
  test_wifi_down = grep ^"`date  +"%b %e %H:%M"| cut -c1-11`" /var/log/messages | fgrep ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
  test_beacon_issue = grep ^"`date  +"%b %e %H:%M" | cut -c1-11`" /var/log/messages | fgrep "Resetting; Code: 01"
  if [ -n $test_wifi_down ];
  # If found then restart the WiFi interface
  then  logger "First if confirmed"
                ifconfig ath0 down;
        sleep 4;
        ifconfig ath0 up;
        logger "Wifi hang, restarting";
        restarted_wifi=true
        test_wifi_down=""
  # Check for the most recent message of WiFi hang, unser if it is the same as the dropping above
                #logger "Going to next if with restarted wifi var = $restarted_wifi"
  elif [ -n $test_beacon_issue ];
  # If found then restart the WiFi interface
  then
                logger "Second if confirmed"
                ifconfig ath0 down;
        sleep 4;
        ifconfig ath0 up;
        logger "Wifi hang, restarting";
        restarted_wifi=true
        test_beacon_issue=""
        #logger "Going to finish with restarted wifi var = $restarted_wifi"

  fi;
  # Wait a long while before we check again since we just restarted
  #logger "Third wifi with checking to wait a long time"
  if [ $restarted_wifi == "true" ]; then
        logger "Will wait 542 seconds before checking wifi again";
        sleep 542;
        restarted_wifi=false;
        logger "will start to check wifi every 50 seconds again";
  fi

I couldn't copy the above script which improves on the Wiki page somewhat. Can anyone help me place it on the Wiki since I can't find a way to register. The affected pages would be:
