I'm currently playing around with owncloud on my Netgear R6300. I've compiled all needed features (lightttpd, php + deps) into a testbuild wich is 5MB larger than regular.

Thus I would like to know if any users are interested in using owncloud on their routers, before I waste more time on it.

Right now there is no integration in dd-wrt webif and it has to be started by hand.

I was planning to run it on my server.
If it doesn't use much resources I'm interested.

Let me know if you need a tester.

Are you still working on it?
Installed OC on my server so I can compare.

Can you guys explain the differences between this and an openvpn setup where I can access my files? It is mainly the syncing part? This sounds very cool. I just want to understand it better.

what is stoping you from making a build that includes it? I think its great to fill up my useless jffs2

also since these routers have an idiotic 128MB flash why don't you megasize the busybox so it includes everything? I would love it

anyway im up for it... looks great.

There are many ways which allow you to access files.

OC turns your router in to a NAS with web interface to manage files music calendar users etc..
File/Photo preview name it.

The thing I like most is that it is on your own network.
I don't want my personal data on something like dropbox google calendar etc.
Call me suspicious...

I have considered using owncloud, but I have not found the time to "mess" with it or even set it up. If you can do something to get that working on my E3000, I would definitely use it.

From what I can tell now owncloud uses quite some ressources, so I don't think tit makes sense to run it on older units.

On 600Mhz / 128MB RAM units it should be ok on the new units e.g. R6250 with dual core arm it should work perfect. Also dependencies (php lighttpd) for owncloud need quite some flash, currently my build is around 20MB. Owncloud itself would be stored on the usb drive.

Sounds like a great plan and very useful.

Speaking a the R6250, do you have any test builds?

I'm willing to test.

Netgear have crippled their firmware for it, only one core active and only half the systems ram is available.

Take care

I don't have my 6250 yet. Thus haven't created a build for now.

I'm not the one you asked, but chipmakers are known to sell 8 core chips as 7 core with the 8th disabled (for example) if one of the cores is, for lack of a better term, broken. There's a chance that they're just selling higher end but not fully functional stuff as slightly lower end.

As far as OwnCloud: I've a WZR-300HP which, I think can handle Optware. I wonder if OwnCloud can be distributed as Optware?

I am currently running your 20006M build on a belkin f7d3302. I installed owncloud using lighttpd, php and mysql from the openwrt snapshot repo on a usb drive. It's definetly nice to have but at least here also damn slow. Maybe my router is just to weak.

But Netgear markets the R6250 as a dual core 256MB wireless router.
