I see last post long time ago I'm new here and would like to take advantage of the DD-WRT firmware. I downloaded a BIN file (after reading through this post) netgear-r8000-webflash.bin from the FTP site but not really sure if this is working or how I install. If anyone can advise it would be appreciated. Thanks

Do a factory reset. Then upgrade using file that HalfBit said, and then issue erase nvram && reboot under Administration - Commands tab
Is the R8000 really supported? or is the KONG mod just allow DD-WRT to run in some capacity on the hardware? How supported is the device?
When I read the forums on www.myopenrouter.com, it sounds like its not totally stable (rebooting daily, some antennas aren't supported). Can someone provide their experience running with ddwrt on this platform.

The R8000 is fully supported, the Database is not up to date. This list shows when support official support was added:
Not sure what they mean by antennae are not supported, the only thing that is not supported anymore is, that you can manually assign tx/rx chains for antennae, which is not supported on this platform.
As for stability, I'm not aware of any problems with current releases, there are some people claiming that their units reboot, but there is no detailed info about this and we have often seen issues that result from custom added scripts wrong configuration (e.g. too large media dbs where db is put into ram until ram is used) etc. If there are two or 3 reports that have no crashdump/serial info that support the claim you can consider this bogus, as the R8x builds are used by 10k+ people. From experience with older issues you will see dozens of people hitting the forum with the exact same report and details how to reproduce it.
In my tests the R8x units run several weeks without any issue.
P.S. On myopenrouter you will also find builds from Thatagata, these are third party dd-wrt builds, which can behave different. _________________ KONG PB's: http://www.desipro.de/ddwrt/

Hi master Kong! Thanks first of all. I was wondering if you heard that there seems to be an issue with the R8000 bricking if you use repeater with a password even on the jan build. I have two R8000 and would love to have the second one be a repeater. TIA

Yes, I have R8000 which works fine as main router but setting it up as repeater bridge bricks (boot loop)the router ( both Kong and BS builds).

Good news! on R8000 as repeater bridge. The latest build: DD-WRT v3.0-r31205M kongac (02/03/17)
Fixed the repeater bridge issue we have been seeing all along. This is the first build where R8000 working fine as repeater bridge.
Thanks a lot Kong, another milestone achieved!

Niceeee, unfortunately for me I already bought a dlink powerline and have been using the r8000 in factory ap mode and getting all of my 60mb down.
Thanks for letting me know!

Does anyone else have an issue with the latest release where the second 5ghz interface can not be seen/connected to (although it's setup very similarly to the first?)

@carlanga,
Just FYI... wireless repeater bridge mode is broken on R8000 in the release # r31205M (02/03/17).
You need to use previous build from Kong: # r31160M (01/18/17) to get it work.
The R8000 died while trying to flash (not me).
Going around, the bootloader is killed: only the power LED is on, nothing is output to the console, no network activity, including TFTP, etc.
I am looking for a way to flash FLASH via JTAG. Is there data on the pinout? Judging by the proximity to SoC, it is he:
Now my R8000 has three pin stereo connector mod for JTAG. _________________ ASUS GT-BE98 PRO Main: Fiber 5gbps up/down
