I have a r7000 running 24345M Oldd for months now, very stable. The thing is that I have a relative that's running an AC68U with the same build and it's having random reboot issues (he has two notebooks with intel wireless clients, a couple of Iphones and an Ipad, all using 2.4 Ghz). I'm planning to send him my r7000 so he can replace his AC68U with it. The thing is that I'm afraid the reboot issue might be because of his clients connecting to an oldd firmware, so maybe the 24345M oldd build that's been so stable for me won't be that stable for him. What do you suggest? I've read good things about 26160 and 26500, but I want to be sure, since my relative doesn't know a thing about these things, and won't be able to flash it if things don't work as expected (and I can't do that either after I send the unit, since he lives in another city). All he needs is rock solid wireless performance with all his clients and stable internet connection, he doesn't use any fancy stuff. What do you recommend? Thanks in advance!
compufan,
you are correct that it might be the clients combined with the older firmware causing the reboots.
If you find out that's the case, then upgrading the firmware is probably the best solution.
In that case:
You CAN use a free desktop sharing application called teamviewer.
You and the cousin run teamviewer.
You remote into his desk, run the update/reconfigure the router from "inside".
OR you can update the R7000 at your house now and then ship it pre-updated and configured.
Either way, teamviewer is a great remote desktop sharing application if you need to get inside his network. _________________ Router currently owned:

Thanks for your quick reply!
Yeah, I use Teamviewer almost on a daily basis. I always use it when I have to fix issues on other pcs of my family. I was planning to send the r7000 already flashed with a new firmware, and that was mainly my question. What's the most stable firmware for the r7000 so far? I mean, in terms of wireless and internet stability with all kinds of 2.4 ghz clients. Clearly I can't send it with the 24345M because that's already causing issues with his clients. Like I said, I've read good things about 26160 and 26500, but I'm not sure. After I send the unit with your recommended build, I surely can configure it with Teamviewer, but if for some reason the router doesn't work as expected and can't connect to the internet, teamviewer will be useless. That's unlikely to happen, though.
Yeah even if the router doesn't work as well as you want, it should still give you/him internet with which to use teamviewer.
Either of the firmwares you mentioned should work fine.
I just recommend you keep using Kong ddwrt if your going to stay with ddwrt.
If your going to flip to another OS then Tomato Shibby is up to v129 and running pretty well.
There is also another cool port/fork of tomato by XVortex. It runs the AsusMerlin gui on the R7000.
Pretty neat actually. _________________ Router currently owned:

Assumptions:
1. Everyone on the forum has read the relevant forum section announcements.
2. For Broadcom section we have ALL at least tried to understand the "Peacock" thread,HERE
Thanks for your replies. A couple of mins ago I flashed the 26500 build on my r7000. I'll see how it works, at least with my wireless clients.
One question, do these new Kong builds have any issues when configuring them as repeater bridge? I have the impression I read that somewhere, but maybe I'm confused.
As far as I understand, the random reboot issue with some clients should be fixed on these builds, since the introduction of the new Broadcom driver, am I right?

don't forget to clean nvram via cli. Just to make sure it's clean, the reboot issued followed me even after the new drivers and it was only after flashing 26500 and cleaning nvram a second time did the reboots stop for me.
Previous stable build I had was 26160 which was installed with cleaning nvram as well. I have tried every Kong build since the new drivers and can vouch for both 26160 and 26500 for wifi stability.
26500 build seems to work fine, with nice wifi stability. Any known issues with repeater bridge with these new builds?
And the other thing. Do these new builds work with other ARM routers, like AC68U? I want to flash it to my other units (all AC68U), and I want to make sure they don't end as bricks.
