Hi, been running an old "classic" Kong R7000 build (24000M) and it's time I get updated seeing all the progress with new drivers, etc.
A few quick questions Question

New WiFi drivers: are they stable now?

USB 3.0 / External hard drive file sharing: Been using it for a while and it's always been slower than OEM but still stable. How does it work lately?

Shibby Tomato provides multiple NFTS drivers per his changelog: "GUI: Allow users to decide which NTFS driver they want to use: Tuxera (AC56, AC68) or Paragon (N18, Netgears) or NTFS-3G (all routers)". Is DD-WRT doing similar these days?

    Overall stability - stable?

Thanks!

seems like all your other questions were answered...

Kong's older stuff before the PTB new overwrites last methodology is still around...

http://www.desipro.de/ddwrt-ren/

i.e. now the main repo (without hte "-ren") only contains the latest/greatest. But if you ask around folks are keeping the PTB history alive Wink

Thanks a lot, maybe if you can anwers these I can go on to flash. Thanks!

2. Also going from 24345M I want to start fresh, how do I nvram erase from the command line (as mentioned few posts above). Is it enough to use the DD-WRT Factory Defaults function? I've been reading people have problems if they didn't start fresh.

3. Lastly do I have to follow the guide on kongs website to set things up, is that guide still valid?

2)
check this out...
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Netgear_R6300v2#NO_30-30-30_Reset_on_BCM4707.2F4708.2F4709_ARM_Devices

I don't have a R7000 so I only wrote a wiki guide for the R6300v2 that I own, but the architecture is so similar you should be able to follow most all the the general concepts/instructions for the R6300v2 on yoru device. Just make sure you are downloading the R7000 specific files (if/when they are different... i.e. initial flash .chk)

3)
I'm not sure exactly what Kong guide you are refereeing to...

That said, most all of Kong's guides are good and generally he does a great job of maintaining/updating things. So it probably couldn't hurt to use his guides.

Assuming you are going to Kongs PTB 26500 dated 3-23-125.. off the top of my head, the only thing you won't need to do with the new WIFI driver that I can thik of is the old wl0_ampdu=off trick...

i.e. no need to do this anymore:
^^^ Having issues with random reboots? Try this ^^^ On code prior to 2/2015
from the command line run
nvram set wl0_ampdu=off

New KONG PTB out! 22-May-2015

I haven't flashed it yet so I don't know what revision it is and ddup --flash-latest isn't recognizing it yet.

Every time I change regulatory domains from US to Canada (where i am) my GUI stops working(I can't get in, used different laptops, browsers, etc). This my 3rd time flashing, and I cleared/factory default, etc...on 26500. Thanks.

have you tried via command line to stop and restart the gui services?
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Stopservice_command

these are the 2 commands.

Thanks, but I tried rebooting after each 'major' changes like changing the Regulatory Domain and not change other options away from Auto, and that works.

My impression from the OLDD drivers, I think the new drivers are lacking in range but it may be a bit faster handling requests.

Question: How do I flash back to stock from the 26500 build properly? I want to see how the range is compared to stock.

OT Question: To those who tried that newest stock firmware is there any way to redirect DNS requests from specific IP (or MAC) to a specific DNS servers? Can you customize the firewall.
Something like this: http://help.unotelly.com/support/solutions/articles/207897

I want a few devices to use unotelly servers and devices like Roku do not have a way to set DNS.

Thanks!

You can flash directly back to stock from ddwrt via the gui.
Do a factory reset at the same time.

I have a silly question about Kong's builds - hope this is a proper thread to ask.

Are Kong's builds actually open source? I mean, is it possible to compile exactly the same binaries from SVN? I guess, it will require custom makefiles and maybe some additional information. Does anyone know anything on that?

depswa,
did you try looking at the stickies in the root of the Broadcom forum?
I assume you did not use the search feature either.
Smile
If you had done either, you should have pretty easily found this thread on the topic.

Thanks slidermike, I will try it later.

Also anyone on Rogers having trouble getting an actual WAN IP today, mine looks like local (192.168.2.20) but my internet still works.

Obviously I can't remote manage my router or its services this way.

I'm going to try flashing stock later tonight in case it's the new firmware...
