I've been running Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r27490 (07/06/15) std for two weeks, so far it is running smooth... WAN, Wifi, USB and auto-mount works, transmission BT works.
Only thing is that I enabled Samba sharing as some youtube videos suggested, everything seems ok but my clients (Macbook and Win8.1 laptop) cannot connect to the Samba server. Not quite sure if that's the IPTables issue or something else...

Just tested this out and I'm also having the same problem with Samba on build 27506.

Got a Dir-860L A1 from friend, he upgraded to Linksys EA8500, flashed it with 27506. So far this router is very stable at 1000MHz and processor temperature is at 66C with moderate load, this is used as wired router only, wifi is turned off, AP are used in the network for best coverage.

flashed 08-25-2015-r27745/dlink-dir860l-a1/ on a dir860L I picked up from goodwill last night.

All features seem to be working. The only minor issues encountered was trying to get ftp and samba to start.

Using ssh, I couldn't see smbd nor nmbd running in ps. Config file /tmp/smb.conf did not exist. Enabled JFFS2 and JFFS2 Clean. Then configured ftp and samba again. Now config file /tmp/smb.conf was there and nmbd was running. Added the command /usr/sbin/smbd -D --configfile=/tmp/smb.conf to startup and now samba auto starts at boot.

I could never get proftpd to auto start. If I ssh in after reboot and start manually it works fine. Not sure whats up with that.

Anyhow, its running now as a decent media server. Getting around 30MB/s transfer rate using an ext3 2TB USB3 disk.

Hi!

I just installed the last beta of dd-wrt on my DIR-860L router. Everything described in this forum worked well except one thing: at the moment i activate USB core, i lost my 2.4 GHZ band (5 GHZ still works btw and 2.4 seems to work except it is not listed by my wireless devices). As I have a portable hard drive formatted with ext4, dd-wrt was the reason why i flashed my router. I need somehow 2.4 Ghz band for an old laptop and my wireless printer.
Does anyone of you has this problem?
If i deactivate USB core, 2.4 Ghz is seen again by my devices!

Thank you!

I've decided to investigate a little bit more to find that it happens only with a specific hard drive. With an usb key and another hard drive, the problem doesn't exist. Maybe my drive is about to die!!

I'm looking to flash dd-wrt to my dir-860L A1 for the first time. I can't seem to find a specific procedure for this router in the wiki. Can someone post the exact process?

I gather that the 868L is similar to the 860L and has a page with specific directions on how to install (http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/D-Link_DIR-868L). Would I be able to follow those steps? (With the appropriate .bin files of course)

Yes; I would suggest using build 27506:
ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2015/07-09-2015-r27506/dlink-dir860l-a1/
Due to this changeset:
[27480*] Fix: DIR-860L LEDs & USB
And 27506 is well-regarded.

Thanks for the reply. Noticed this note "The router doesn't support Hard Reset (aka 30/30/30 reset), use the Erasing NVRAM method instead." My question now is how do I erase the NVRAM?

I assume I'll need to erase the NVRAM before and after I flash the router?

I'm not sure I'd do an erase nvram. I would just try the rest to factory defaults from within the gui.
Not sure if the erase nvram messes up these routers like the linksys ea series.

Yup; fwiw, I only ever do a 'Restore Factory Defaults' reset before and after a normal upgrade flash.

The nvram erase does more than that...e.g., overclocks on my WRT54G{S,L}'s and WNDR4000 are not affected by the 'Restore Factory Defaults', but do reset w/ 'nvram erase'. Though...when I've had to do that sort of thing, was usually also in concert w/ changing from TomatoUSB-Toastman or OpenWRT, or otherwise getting things eftup...so yrmv.

Do not do erase nvram on your 860L, it's running perfectly without that, just do a factory reset from the administration page, mine has been running solid stable for over a months without restart, it's the main router for a network of 30+ computers and 10+ cellphones.

Hi there. I am also looking into flashing my DIR-860L with DD-WRT and I was wondering what version were you referring to. From the posts here it seems 27490 and 27506 are both safe bets but from the date of your post you seem to have used a newer one. Is it still running fine?

Thanks!

Also... While searching information regarding the DIR-860L I found this post by et3606 that mentions problems with the virtual interface in 27506. Shouldn't this be added as a known defect at the OP?

As far as I understood, the july build works fine a part from samba and ftp server issues.
Is it a new release foreseen soon?
Will the dd-wrt for this router exit the beta phase soon?
Thanks a lot for any info about.
