I tried some passive injection with the stock power supply ( 3.?V )and couldn't get it to work, even on a really short cable -- it's posted in in the old forum.

I haven't tried with a bigger supply, but that's on my to-do list.

this unit would be a great outdoor radio cause its board is small and would fit in a $10 nema box, so I do want to get it happy with cheap poe.

maybe some electronics-savvy type can research its voltage-regulation and make some passive PoE recommendations...

as inferior as the linksys hardware is, at least it runs on practicaly any power you can get to it.

I suppose if money isn't a condideration you could buy the buffalo kit for 3.?v PoE , but that costs as much as the router itself...

or you could just by a cheap dc-dc regulator that will do the required 48v to whatever the Buffalo needs and solder it in. I would guess this to be $5 to $15 at the most in quanties of 1 Smile
here's a quick search of a Dc\dc converter at mouser that will do 48v to 12v and it's about $13-$14 dollars in quantities of 1.

nice, anyone bothered to read the regulator on the board to see what voltages it accepts?
