I didn't get it to work too. I have a linux (debian) machine (running on an Odroid XU4).
I installed the Softether on the linux machine too and I'm testing the config on both.
It is running on the linux machine, but it doesn't with the R7000. I don't know what the problem is, but it's not in the config.

I tried going through your tutorial, however, i keep getting stuck on step 9. It won't let me pick remote access server. Any idea why it would do this?

It took a few days, but I was able to get OpenVPN setup on my dd-wrt router and connected via my iPhone running iOS 10. I tried to capture how I got my setup going hoping that it can help others.

Did softether support get removed from Kong builds? I just came across this thread and I have no option for softether in my kong r34800M build for my RT-AC68U C1?

Yes, Softether have been replaced by IPSec.
