So far I've ran into this with best I can recall all FW tried. What I'm running now is the one released on 7/2 hoping it would fix the "issue".

So here's the deal...

First... I don't care about the isolation thing. Anyway, whenever I try and make a guest network. I can't seem to use it even though I can see it broadcasting.

So to make this easy... I would like someone to otherwise walk me through setting up a usable guest network this way we can deal with issues as they're ran in to since as of right now I'm on a fresh install with only me naming and securing the primary 2.4/5Ghz channels.

Ty.

I saw that and I don't care for the isolation ATM since I can't even get a basic guest network going which I should be able to do just by creating the virtual interface and naming it.

All it does is keep showing "connecting" but never doing so.

At this point in time I'm bout ready to go back to Netgears FW and I really dont want to because I came to DDWRT for Yamon. TBH, Yamon is the only reason I'm even using DDWRT.

But ya, I'll straight pay someone and let them VNC into my machine to do this for me so they can see I'm not a nutbag or maybe show me wtf I'm doing wrong just trying to get a basic secured (PW Protected) guest network. Only downfall would be them not being able to see what the device trying to connect is doing.

Edit: At this point in time. I'm going to do a clean flash and open/pw protect the main 2.5/5Ghz networks as I figured out how to proceed which at present I feel I will need to have someone do this for me and I pay them with them just VNC'ing in to my machine connected to the router.

So...

Would anyone who maybe gets this a bit better than me want to make a few bucks ? Grant it letting someone "in" is always risky but I try to do my homework first on a person.

But ya, I gotta be f'n something up somewhere. I can make a basic guest network with no isolating stuff. Encrypt it with WPA2 AES like the main 2.4/5Ghz channels but can't seem to otherwise use it to get online whereas the main channels look and operate just fine.

What version of the wndr4500 and what dd-wrt build?
Need much more information before anyone can help you.
Is this a router holding a WAN connection or is it just an AP?
What wireless radio are your trying to make a guest network on?

screenshots of what you have will help

Have you followed any of these ----

At work right now so will get to it tomorrow sometime but I can say right now it's the V1 with the brick psu. As for the version... The one released on I think 7/4 but the "issue" is the same regardless of the version of ddwrt out of the few I've tried.

mrjcd pointed me here...

I've been trying off and on for an hour to get a Guest Network setup on my WNDR4500v2, running "30082 giga" (actually mega) to no avail. With or without a password, with or without AP Isolation, and various other permutations...my phone always gets to the 'Obtaining IP Address' stage, then times out. I used these as guides, since its been a while since I setup Guest on DD:
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Guest_WiFi_%2B_abuse_control_for_beginners
http://tips.desipro.de/2013/12/06/guest-wifi-setup-dd-wrt/

This is, btw, after (finally) doing a GUI reset a week ago, which has resolved the high wireless error rates and (at least greatly helped the) 2.4GHz radio dropout issues I'd been having.

V1 with the brick PSU and DD-WRT v3.0-r30082 giga (07/01/16)

Connected to cable modem from ISP. Setup to use a static IP. Everything runs fine til I try a guest network.

From the 2.4 one is what I'm trying to otherwise attach a guest channel to.

That's what it kept doing for me... trying to obtain but never could regardless of how I tried to do the guest network.

This morning I tried connecting the laptop while the guest network was open; it connected (unlike the phone), but had no internet. Direct IP addresses did not work either, so it wasn't just a DNS issue.

Still an issue regardless of encryption or isolating methods used. Seems I'm not the only one either so why this is even an issue for more than one person for something that should work is beyond me but there has to be someone whos super techy on these forums with an idea.

SSID broadcasts fine, just seem to get stuck at trying to connect / get an IP for the guest network.

Could care less for the isolating feature. I just want a working, password protected guest network.

So if I'm, understanding your edit correctly...

a 30x30x30 x 3 should work / make a guest wifi ok with the simplistic way I want which is just secured with a PW and no ISO stuff ?

Even during my initial original flash. I don't recall ever getting this working.

Just wanted you to know what I did. I've been doing this a long time but this was first time I got into such a mess. I reset and CL nvram erase and went back to older known working builds but still had trouble getting a VAP to work.
Only after multiple button resets over and over and over I was able to get a trusted build to work perfectly.
I then started installing last few new builds and they all worked fine.....GUI reset and reconfigure from scratch and they all worked fine.
Don't have your router so don't know its capabilities.... I'm just passing on info.
The E2500 I was using has had many different 3rd party firmware and many many many dd-wrt k2.6 builds & k3.x builds back & forth over few years .... likely in my case some cobbled up settings code hanging somewheres.
'bout all i know

Giod luck

Well, based on your tests. Without knowing much of my router. What build would you recommend as of right now ?
