Now you are beginning to understand why I gave up on the Linksys WRT's. I spent 2 years hoping the wrt3200 would get to where it should be at this time, 2 years since ship.
Finally gave in and went Netgear r8000 and r8000p. Have been very happy with the move and do not have any regrets other the the time and money wasted trying to get a wrt1900acs and then a wrt3200 to where they should be.
yep, Stinksys routers --> waste of money. _________________ My "WRT" rant, and why I have gone ddwrt on x86, no more consumer routers. ( ac86u as access points & bridges )

IS it r32597? Looking to do 2 vlans with bandwidth allocation by port/radio.
Build recommendations welcome.
Setting up a WRT3200ACM.
R32597 is quite old and I am sure buggy.
There is no such thing as a stable build with dd-wrt. All builds are beta. That is the reason to read the notes folks post about the various builds.

Because of the poor support Linksys/Marvel have provided the devs I would classify the wrt3200 as JUNK!
How do you like the firmware UI of the r8000p compared to the UI of the wrt models? I can't decide on the Asus ac86u or the R8000p.

I'm right there with ya savagepagan, I have read it is dated and not as polished as others, but if it just Works I can look past that I think.

I can't speak to the r8000p, but I have 3 - AC86U's running merlin's latest, and I am totally shocked at how fast everything is.
I think the r8000p (r8000 is dual 1ghz, r8000p is dual 1.8ghz) and AC86u (dual 1.8ghz) are pretty much the same specs, so if you need the 2nd 5ghz go with r8000p, if you don't, go ac86u. Either way, the "set it and forget it" reliability seems to be equal. With Merlin's firmware, I was able to setup an excellent adblocker. It has super USB support,Trend Micro protection comes standard, and the TOR setup is super easy. _________________ My "WRT" rant, and why I have gone ddwrt on x86, no more consumer routers. I can say the same for the r8000p. Much faster then I ever saw with the WRT3200, either OEM or 3rd party firmware. Another plus it the r8000p just works, no issues. Hopefully BS puts out a build soon, know he has r8000p in house. _________________ Unifi Security Gateway:Unifi Firmware Netgear r7800:Voxel Firmware Modem:Netgear CM500V voice and Data. Have you ever tried ebay? You can get used R8000p in very good cond. for $220 not incl. shipping.
How much of a hassle would it be for netgear to overhaul the firmware ui?

Yes I have seen them on Fleabay for less with free shipping, but have also read were Netgear can and have refused to cover a unit under warranty if not purchased from one of their authorized reseller's.
I have seen them for around $250 on Amazon in the past
just waiting to see that price again
As far as the UI goes I'm not sure how much it would take to update or polish, I am only going by what I have read and that was it was a little dated looking _________________ ISP: Charter

Any idea how the R7800 compares to the AC86U.?
myerws, mojo and others have said that the r7800 is also a very good choice and if I'm not mistaken r7800 will run DD-Wrt.
I was really hoping to see DD-Wrt on the R800p like myersw has also said, I just want to be happy this time around and not disappointed like I am with the 3200. _________________ ISP: Charter

the only issue with the wrt3200acm is wireless and that is where it ends. For wired clients good luck trying to find something at the $100 price point (refurb) where I got in at, there is NO problem with Ethernet speeds.

@savagepagan
I have purchased many products from Ebay and never had an issue. I subscribe to the idea that if it makes it through the warranty period it should be good to go. Most electronics such as routers I buy off of Ebay are out of warranty so do not care as long as it works when I receive it. Watch sellers, must say they will replace a dead on arrival device, but some are as is. _________________ Unifi Security Gateway:Unifi Firmware Netgear r7800:Voxel Firmware Modem:Netgear CM500V voice and Data. I agree completely as a router the 3200acm is fast and works, but the wi-fi functionality is subpar to say the least! _________________ ISP: Charter
