My wife has had it with the WRT3200ACM and the wifi drop outs, and demands a new router. Does anyone have a suggestion for a router that is actually stable and can run dd-wrt firmware?

So of interest and not entirely unrelated....
A friend of mine has a Surface 3, and was having intermittent wireless drop offs, no matter where he was and what WiFi network he used. I didn't realize that his Surface (Maybe other Surface Tabs as well) used the Marvell wireless controllers.
Seems to be working fine with ArchLinux(Manjaro).
Perhaps all the issues with the WRT's are in fact the wireless chipset ? Seems to be a common theme. _________________ My "WRT" rant, and why I have gone ddwrt on x86, no more consumer routers. ( ac86u as access points & bridges )

A lot of folks really like the Asus rt-ac86u. This one is not supported by dd-wrt, but the RMerlin firmware is great. For a fast dd-wrt supported router look at Netgear R7800.
How are the temps for your R8000P? Does it seem hot or warm to you?

You can just go look up the chip set specs for that router and it will tell you the operating parameters of the chip temperature wise.
If it's like most modern routers the chip set will normally run in the 70's Celsius.
I have run this wrt3200acm at 85 for months (sealed in a waterproof enclosure)
No issues with temperature caused errors.
These will run hotter then even your graphics card and are normally running way hotter then your CPU.
This is completely NORMAL!!!! _________________ WRT3200ACM

Running my r8000 right now. Temp currently is 63 degrees. The r8000p shows similar temps. As AArion says, not to worry about temps on these newer routers. Folks that say temp shortens the life maybe right, but are you going to keep it for a long time? No a shinny new router will catch your eye before the current one gives up.

Is there any version stable to:
1) Run DHCP
2) Serve wifi over 2.4 and 5 Ghz
3) Do port range forwarding
4) Operate in AP mode
Or not yet ?
What's the criteria for 'stable'...uptime-wise, number of wireless client, packet load?
I'm on r34929 std ( 02/12/18 ), with 20 days uptime at the moment.
Your post would be somewhat useful if you told him wether or not yours also met his other requirements.
There is that implication, but implications aren't good for anything. _________________ WRT3200ACM

I have a WRT1900ACSv1 and a WRT3200ACM. I've been dying to install DDWRT on them for a while now, but I'm hearing mixed reviews about the wireless performance, in some cases it not working at all. Is that still true? 90% of my stuff is wireless, so that would be a deal breaker. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I ran into a problem where my wife's computer was getting a 503 error with Privoxy (under adblocking) enabled (I believe by default, unsure, don't think I enabled it, I may have, I'm getting old)
I disabled Privoxy and soon found out that the battle.net and origin launchers wouldn't connect to the servers unless I re-enabled Privoxy, which started (again) throwing the 503 error on my wife's computer every time she rebooted. So, if I leave it enabled, my wife can't use Twitch and if I disable it, I can't play my Destiny2 or any of my Mass Effects.
I couldn't figure out what was going on. I reverted to the original stable r30796 and walked it up to my current r34777 before we discovered that it was Privoxy causing all of the heartache.

I just bought a 3200ACM last weekend. I flashed it Monday & haven't had a problem with it at all. Wireless is about the same as with stock filmware.
I flashed one of the betas in which it has been updated on the 26TH. Had no hiccups at all.
