Hello all,
With the help of this forum I have completed my first DD-WRT flash on a TRENDNET TEW-828DRU router. Many thanks to those who have taken the time to post all of the guides and other helpful material. So I at least wont be asking noob questions about flashing problems
I will however, ask for help with getting my desired setup to work. I have been searching the forums and internet in general to find info on similar setups but have been mostly unsuccessful. I live in a rural area where my only option for internet is satellite (which I despise with the burning passion of a thousand suns) so my goal is to take advantage of the decent 4G LTE signal in my area and use it for home internet.
I will try to provide as much information as possible, so sorry if this is info overload.
My setup:
Starting with the phone:
I have a grandfathered truly unlimited data plan with Sprint. I will be using my old HTC One M8 for tethering to my router. I do not have tethering on my plan so I have rooted the phone, gained S-off, and edited the system files to disable Sprint's safeguards against tethering.
I will be tethering this phone to my TRENDNET TEW-828DRU via USB cable. The router is currently running build 27490 (will upgrade if needed).
I want to be able to use both wired (Xbox, desktop) and wireless (tablets, laptop, ect.) on the same network. I have seen setups where the DD-WRT router is set up as a repeater for the phone's hotspot. I would only want to use that setup as a last resort.
Where my current knowledge and efforts are failing me is finding the correct settings to get the router to use my phone's internet as WAN. I do not have any networking experience to speak of. I have read the "Cellular Phone/USB Modem as WAN connection" article thoroughly and am still unsure of what exactly my next steps should be. If I understand the article, I should be able to get the setup working without following the more complicated instructions in the article due to the newer builds having built in support for 3G/4G/LTE/CDMA. If anyone has experience with a setup like this I would be curious as to what your basic settings are. I haven't been able to get any further than my phone recognizing the router and allowing USB tether.
I would greatly appreciate any help/advice or info!
Trying to make sense out of the info in these threads. I am unsure which set of information to follow as they both seem to say that they have gotten it to work, but have very different instructions. I would also be curious to know if any of the described methods are different or obsolete on newer builds.
As I mentioned earlier, I have read the 'USB Modem as WAN Connection' article.
Where I am in need of guidance is the proper settings within the router to get this working. I am stuck on this step due to finding 6 years worth of different information on this. I need to know specific setup info, and whether or not I need to mess with APN, do I need to load ACM kernel module? What codes do I need to enter?, ect.
I am almost sure that the 'USB Modem as WAN Connection' article was written in 2010 and is not entirely relevant to current builds.
If anyone has, or knows of someone who has done this recently I would like to know what they did to get it working.
Does this still work? I cannot get it to work. Using android S4 with Verizon, internet works fine on phone, and followed instructions. The easy method, anyway lol. Please advise, thx!

jagster936 did you get this working? Me not yet.
I'm using a Netgear R3650 (Kong DD-WRT from 19 Feb 2018)+ Nexus 6P (4G), and have followed the instruction from JXM, to no avail. There is a much longer procedure here:
