I'm debating purchasing an R9000 as I really need to step up to a more robust router #1, but #2... I really want to toss my main power hog pc that's running plex server right now and toss it on the router.
I have googled, and also searched this thread, but didn't see a clear response.
I see DD-WRT is compatible with the R9000, but if I flash it, do I lose the ability to install Plex Media Server on it?
You cannot run Plex on dd-wrt.. Plex capability is something Netgear builds into their firmware because Plex pays them to do so.
You use dd-wrt so you have a secure router.. not to run things that for all you know could be completely nonsecure when used on the router. _________________ Routers:

Lol, yes I realize that I have used dd-wrt since back when WRT54gs were prevalent. And the reason I asked is because there are PLENTY of daemons you can run on a DD-wrt flashed router. Since the question had not been asked or answered I figured I'd double check.
In addition, ANOTHER reason people use dd-wrt over stock firmware is for stability. I hate factory firmwares because they're typically bloated with crap, and they still require you to reboot them every so often making them unreliable.
I'm trying to kill 2 birds with one stone. But evidently that's not possible. I'm trying to simplify my network closet rather than add additional devices to it. Hence why it would have been great if I could have both DD-WRT and PLEX still installed. I guess I'll wish in one hand and S#!t in the other and see which one fills up first...

BtW does anyone know how to disable any of the 2.4/5/60 ghz radios on the R9000 when using Kong's build 3.0.31700?
Cheers

Under wireless, "Basic Settings" tab: choose the wireless radio-> "Wireless Network Mode " and set it to "Disabled" _________________ ASUS GT-BE98 PRO Main: Fiber 5gbps up/down

For those who have been using it, would you say it's stable to use? I don't need anything advanced such as VLAN's just stable/fast 2.4/5ghz wireless, SFP port, openvpn and DNS.
I've installed dd-wrt before but I really am a bit scared to do so on such an expensive router. But the stock firmware is just so godawful....
